The Ultimate Sacrifice

Memorial Day is a time to honor those who gave their life serving our country.  The men and women we remember on the holiday chose to sleep in tents hearing enemy fire, eat food out of a can and ultimately give their life in order to guard our freedoms.

We live in a time when we love our comforts, our luxuries, fine dining and a super soft mattress.  We think we can't live without them.  Is there anything so precious to you, for which you would give your life to preserve?

As you enjoy a day off, take time to reflect on our history.  Pause at 3 pm on Memorial Day for a moment of silence and reflection on the sacrifice of the fallen. Men and Women of Integrity who serve in the military have a different view of our country and of life.  They choose a career that could cost them their life.  They see our country as worthy of defending.  We are blessed to live in the United States.  Of course our country has faults, we all have faults and our country is made up of a bunch of people who make mistakes.

My challenge is to turn my mistakes into learning opportunities.  I want to be a giver not a taker.  "If you learn from defeat, you haven't really lost."  Zig Ziglar

I pray for you to have a blessed Memorial Day cherishing those you love and the life you have.   Thank a vet.

Moving forward,

Ultimate Sacrifice

Our hearts are heavy this Memorial Day for our fallen heroes.  And for recent senseless violence.  Throughout the history of the United States, men and women of valor have given their lives for their country, for our freedom and for the betterment of mankind everywhere.

Our military fight for peace, that is our goal... not for aggression.  I have met many heroes in our training program for Disabled Vets.  They tell me their stories.  They have faced great fears and continue to fight for the future with a stamina that those of us who have not served will never fully understand.

Greater love has no man that this, that he lay down his life for a friend.

As you enjoy a day with family, friends and some really good barbecue don't fail to remember those who have lost their lives in battle.  The National Memorial Day Concert is back after a 2 year pause. It will be played live on PBS, 8 pm on Sunday night.  Tune in and be inspired.

Pray for the families that push forward even with heavy losses on their hearts. Pray for the parents of the little ones in Uvalde, Texas.

Moving forward,

Memorial Day

The long weekend is here.  Memorial Day Weekend is a time to remember all the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the United States. Those men and women died in the line of duty defending us, defending our freedoms.

This weekend is a time to be thankful for our country, the freedoms we enjoy and the life of promise we can have because of so many who have given their life for our country.   They unselfishly signed up for what ultimately meant a life cut short.  I say thank you to those families who have had to mourn that great loss.  I say thank you to the fellow soldiers who watched their compadre fall.

We are privileged to be a certified by the TexasWorkforce and approved by the Department of Rehabilitative Services. Click here for veteran information. As a result, I am honored to meet a lot of vets who take our Freight Broker Training and other courses at no cost to them.  We enjoy encouraging  their start at a new life after their military service.  I get to hear stories of their buddies who didn't make it out.  They are thankful to be alive,  but also challenged to understand why they still have their life when others don't.

Enjoy a weekend of freedom and thankfulness.

Moving forward,

Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a day to reflect on the sacrifice that so many have made for freedom. I am so thankful for those in my family that have served in the military.  I don't have anyone in my close family that gave their life serving but many who sacrificed a lot to go defend our country in a foreign land. I am very thankful for that.  I will take time out of my day to express my gratitude. I challenge all of my readers to do the same.

Memorial Day used to be called Decoration Day because it was a day set aside to adorn graves of fallen soldiers with   flowers. I was wondering how many graves we should be adorning this Memorial Day.

I found an article from the Los Angeles Times that gave the actual number of soldiers who died in the wars of our land:

4,435 in The American Revolution (1775-17830)
2,260  in the War of 1812 (1812-1815)
1,000 in the Indian Wars (1817-1898)
1,733 in the Mexican- American War (1846-1848)
140,414 Union Soldiers in Civil War
74,524 Confederate Soldiers in Civil War
384 Spanish-American War
53,402 World War I (1917-1918)
291,557 World War II (1941-1945)
33,739 Korean War (1950-1953)
47,434 Vietnam War (1964-1975)
148 Persian Gulf War (Desert Shield/Desert Storm) (1990-1991)
6,915 Global War on Terrorism (2001- present)

As you enjoy a day off grilling burgers with friends and family, take time to remember those who gave the ultimate price in the protection of the freedom we all enjoy in the United States.

Because Brooke Transportation Training is certified to train disabled vets for a new career, I am privileged to get to meet many vets.  I thank you for your service, I am honored to get to be a part of your future and I wish you much success and blessing in appreciation for your service.

Remember a Veteran

The United States federal holiday of Memorial Day was first celebrated May 30th 1868.  It was called Decoration Day because that day was set aside to go to the graveyards and decorate graves of brave ones with flowers. U.S. men and women who died while in the military service deserve such remembrance. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War (it is celebrated near the day of reunification after the civil war), it was expanded after World War I to memorialize all American lives lost in war. (edited from Wikopedia

Take time this memorial day to remember someone who died while serving our great nation.  Thank a veteran of any war.  And reflect on your own heart.  Life is precious.  What cause is great enough to sacrifice a life?  Is there any cause or any person for which you sacrifice your life?  Have I taught my children: greater love has no man than this that he lay down his life for his brother?

As I was thinking towards the Memorial Day holiday I thought about different people in my life who have died and what their life displayed to the world.  My sister in law recently died.  Her life displayed love especially to her children, good work ethic and forever loyalty to her Baylor Bears.  My uncle in law recently died as well.  He enjoyed life, a good golf game and singing in the church choir to the glory of God.

I want my life to count for something.  I don’t want to waste a day in selfishness, although I know I do.  When a soldier signs up he knows that his life may end.  All our lives will end.  We know that but we don’t always live like every day is precious.  So this Memorial Day remember to live a purposeful life everyday.
