Summer Celebrations

Statue sculpted by Thomas Ball to commemorate the Emmancipation Proclamation

I hope you all had a Happy Father's Day yesterday.  I am proud to live in a country where freedom and family are a cause for celebration.  I am not a perfect father but God gave me 3 wonderful daughters, their husbands and 4 perfect granddaughters.  They are great gifts.

Yesterday was also Juneteenth, a celebration for when the enslaved people in Galveston, Texas found out they were free... more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.  News didn't spread as quickly then as it does now.  Union soldiers arrived in Galveston on June 19, 1865 declaring to all that slavery was abolished.  The former slaves immediately began to celebrate with prayer, feasting, song and dance.  It is the longest running African American holiday.   The day dedicated to celebrating that freedom spread through out the states.

Texas declared Juneteenth as a state holiday in 1980.  It  didn't become a federal holiday until 2021 in the United States.

Let's all celebrate family and freedom with jubilant prayer, dancing, feasting and singing.

Happy Fourth of July

We live in a great country.  As far as I'm concerned it is the greatest country in the planet.  We have faults but we have more freedoms. This weekend as we celebrate our independence we can't forget the brave men and women who have served in our military.  Enjoy time with your friends and family but also reach out to a veteran or someone currently serving in a branch of the military.

Brooke Transportation Training is an approved Chapter 31 program approved to train disabled vets for a new career.  As a result I have the honor of saying thanks in person to scores of brave individuals who have given a part of themselves in service to the USA.

I ask them to tell me their stories if they are comfortable doing that.  For many, serving in the military was their only option as a job when they graduated from high school.  Once they are in the service they never know how or where they will serve.  Some leave behind children and wives, all leave behind family and friends.  They return to find many things changed.  Their children and siblings have grown and moved forward in life while they were away.  They have to get reacquainted with their spouses, this is a challenge to both.  And they have to find a new way to make a living.  We relish the opportunity to work with vets everyday as they move forward after serving our great country.

Independence Day is a day to celebrate our country... The freedoms we enjoy... The men and women who protect those freedoms.

Enjoy the long weekend and thank a vet.

Bilingual Freight Broker

I took the freight broker/agent training course at Brooke Transportation Training Solutions with Monica Jaramillo as my instructor. I found this course very helpful with lots of information. Monica is a great instructor! She gave me many examples so I could understand the process of how this business works. I am bilingual and she helped me in both languages. Fishing Freight Broker

A great advantage of being a freight broker or freight broker agent is being able to work anywhere with conductivity.   I love fishing, especially at Florida's beautiful white sand beaches and in their turquoise waters.

When I need a fishing excursion to clear my cobwebs, I plan a trip.  I take my phone and my computer with me, get a place that has a good internet connection and I'm good to go.  I can do my work and enjoy some refreshing sea air at the same time.

I believe that atmosphere is very important for mental health.  Working from home is a great perk but can get lonely.  Most of America learned to work from home this past year.  It is important to have a work/home/play balance.  That became a bit of a challenge when home was the workplace.  Since I've been working from home for years it was not an adjustment for me.

In our freight broker training course we teach the skills needed to be successful as a freight broker.  We also share a plethora of advice on how to work from home, how to have that work life balance, how to stay focussed and inspired.  We give detailed information on how to structure the day.  You learn how to set goals with a mission statement for your business.

Being an entrepreneur is exhilarating when you see your plans falling into place.  Each day you succeed in hitting goals you are more inspired to continue on.

We are so proud of the success we see in our graduates.  We would love to take you along for the ride.  Our testimonials say it all.  Read a few, or watch them on video.  Our graduates are not only inspired for their new career they gain new inspiration for life.

You Need a Mission Statement

Running a business without a mission statement is aimless.  You need a target.  A mission statement communicates to everyone in the company your goal, your target.  A mission statement communicates to the world your goal, your target.

My mission statement is:

To educate and motivate go-getters and go-givers.

James Cash Penney, the founder of JC Penney, created his around a simple mission statement: “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you” — the Golden Rule.

Mr. Penney said, “Give me a stock clerk with a goal, and I'll give you a man who will make history. Give me a man with no goals, and I'll give you a stock clerk.”

He understood the importance of having goals that reflect your mission. Having a clear mission allowed him to stay focused and build a successful business in which he could take pride.

Missions statements are created to answer two questions: “Why do we do what we do?” And, “How can we do it?”

Just as it’s important for your business to have a mission statement, it’s just as important to have a personal mission statement. Having a clear vision of your mission will enable you to reach your goals without compromising your values.

So, how do you create a personal mission statement? Here are some things to consider:

1.) Determine what values are most important to you. This should be more than just about making money. Dig deep and explore your core values. What do you never want to compromise?

2.) Look at others whom you admire. Think of someone you admire - it may be a historical figure, a public figure, or even a friend or a family member. What qualities make them admirable in your eyes? Try to adopt those qualities into your mission statement.

3.) Look in the mirror. Take a good long look at the person you see. How do you view yourself? How do others view you? What is working for you? Incorporate the characteristics that you are most proud of into your mission. Also, look at what you could do to improve. Incorporate character traits that you are currently lacking but are desirable to you. You’ll be surprised how well you improve on something once it is stated in your mission.

4.) Hone in our your purpose. This one can be hard but think long and hard about this one. What is it that you are here for? It may be to build an empire. It may be to inspire others to live a better life. Or, it may be to work hard and take care of your loved ones. Your purpose is your choice, but make sure to be clear and decisive when determining what it is.

5.) Create specific outcome-focused goals. Now that you’ve determined what’s important, who you want to model, who you want to be, and what your purpose is, it’s time to set some goals. When creating goals, be very specific and write them down. Create both short-term and long-term goals. Create goals for multiple areas of your life: business, relationships, financial, spiritual, health, and happiness.

For example, here’s my mission statement:

Most important values to me: To live my life with integrity, humility, and grace.

Living like those I admire: To believe in others and mentor others - as others have believed in me and mentored me.

Looking in the mirror: To give more than I take. To be thankful for the little things, and remember that every day is a gift. To put God first, family second, and business third.

Honing in on my purpose: To educate and motivate the go-getters and the go-givers, not for glory or money, but because we all need help.

Goals: To always be working to improve my spiritual life and my personal relationships. To exercise every day and eat healthy food to fuel my body. To grow my business and be innovative with new ideas to make a positive impact on as many individuals as possible.

Remember to always continue crafting and improving your mission statement. This is something you live by, and it truly holds power. We'd love to hear your personal mission statement with us in the comments.

New Year New Career

Do you liked working from home?  Would you like to continue to work from home but looking for a new opportunity?

In a few weeks you can be on your way to a brand new future, as a freight broker, freight broker agent or logistics coordinator in the transportation industry.

Brooke training has a live remote class that has been extremely popular during the pandemic.    Live in- person classes are great, but of course take more some travel.   With our live remote classes you still get the benefit of an instructor to answer all your  questions, but all from the comfort of your own home.  We have scores of testimonials from our students all along the way in their course.  The basic course is one week, followed up by a week long advanced class.

Our instructors walk you through a process to become successful as a freight broker or a freight broker agent.  The transportation industry is an exciting, fast paced industry with the potential for big income for anyone who wants to learn the industry.

As we reach herd immunity, there is going to be more commerce than ever, more freight moving across the country and more opportunity for freight brokers to cash in.  The transportation industry has never been better.  Logistics professionals are in high demand.  The need for logistics professionals will only increase as our economy revs back up.  At the same time, most professionals have gotten used to working at home and they want to continue to work from home.  At Brooke Training we have, in my opinion, the best fast track training to get people working from home.  It is not a get rich quick deal but a truely the sky is the limit,  if the graduate puts in the work.

Give me a call if this interests you at all.  No pressure, I will talk with you about your skills, your goals and  encourage you to find a great future.

Freight Brokering, as an agent, is a real chance to own a franchise like business without paying the franchise fee. If you come to my school – you will be recruited by the industry leading Freight Brokers to become their agents and get the support you will need to get your business done. I know how to do this because I’ve worked in the industry for over 20 years. I know what systems need to  be in place for an investor who wants to build a “non-asset business” with  extremely LOW fixed cost.
The freight broker business is  booming, a great investment opportunity.

I specialize in  helping companies grow their company as a part of the team. My passion is to create passive residual  revenue streams doing honest work. I love teaching others how to do it.

Successful Inspiration

Need a little inspiration?  When I first started my business, man, it was so exciting.  Each day brought new challenges, new opportunities, and some new failures.  After a misstep, I'd pick myself up and keep going.

But then I got in the grove to the point it was easy to slip into complacency.  In this season of Corona where getting business and keeping business is twice as hard, it is a challenge to keep up the energy level.

When you hit a wall and need someone to give you a nudge, call us.  Because we have worked with many professionals for decades we have heard most of the vines that tangle up a new broker.  We love to coach others on the road to success.  Let us get in your corner and rev up the revenue.

I just received a testimonial from one of our coaching clients:

I have the tools I need to act.  I feel excited, confident and energized.
Tomorrow I am going to take action.
I got more out of 2 hours with Vinny (a Brooke instructor)
than I did the whole course
with the other company!  - Van Penn

Thanks for the testimonial.  We strive to provide true value in all we do.  That gives us motivation and confidence.

Memorial Day

The long weekend is here.  Memorial Day Weekend is a time to remember all the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the United States. Those men and women died in the line of duty defending us, defending our freedoms.

This weekend is a time to be thankful for our country, the freedoms we enjoy and the life of promise we can have because of so many who have given their life for our country.   They unselfishly signed up for what ultimately meant a life cut short.  I say thank you to those families who have had to mourn that great loss.  I say thank you to the fellow soldiers who watched their compadre fall.

We are privileged to be a certified by the TexasWorkforce and approved by the Department of Rehabilitative Services. Click here for veteran information. As a result, I am honored to meet a lot of vets who take our Freight Broker Training and other courses at no cost to them.  We enjoy encouraging  their start at a new life after their military service.  I get to hear stories of their buddies who didn't make it out.  They are thankful to be alive,  but also challenged to understand why they still have their life when others don't.

Enjoy a weekend of freedom and thankfulness.

I love my Mom!!

Mom's are the best.  My mom is my best friend.  I have a great attitude in life because she has a great attitude about life.  Not because she has had an easy life but because she looks for the good in every day and in everyone.  She is in her 80s now and so full of thankfulness for all she has in life.  She grew up in an orphanage, has lived a simple but full life.  She met my dad in that orphanage.  They were "throw away" children yet grew into incredibly valuable people.  I owe my life to them, in more ways than one.  I asked my mom to make a list of her thankfulness.  This is what she typed up on her laptop (she is a high tech great granny):

Things I am thankful for:

Thankful for God allowing me another day
Thankful for God's love
Thankful for Christ Jesus who died for me
Thankful for being able to pray
Thankful for God's beautiful earth
for the birds that sing, trees, flowers, rain and for the sunshine
Thankful for my beloved husband
Thankful for a cool house in the summer and warm in the winter
Thankful for my wonderful children, all my grandchildren, and great grandchildren
Thankful for my church family
Thankful for the food we have
Thankful for my friends
Thankful for my neighbor Joe and his family
Thankful for my eyes able to read and study God's word and see God's beautiful world
Thankful for my ears so I can hear the bird's singing
Thankful for our car (which our son gave us)
Thankful for my bed to sleep in
Thankful for all my aches and pains (I know others are a lot worse off)
Thankful for the night's rest
Thankful for our country, may we always live in freedom

(I have posted this list before but I think it is worth repeating.)

Happy Mother's Day to my mom and to mom's everywhere.  They are the heart of our nation.

Remote Live Training

Our training continues despite the fact that most of us are staying at home.  Most of our instructors are doing remote training, and the results are great.  New freight brokers are graduating each month to start a new career from home.   And the timing is great. Because of COVID-19 more consumers are having things delivered, so more freight brokers are needed to get those good to the various parts of the country.

One of our recent graduates has started his new career strong right out of the shoot.  I will write about his story soon.  Don't stay at home and be discouraged.  Learn a new skill, learn a new career and find your light on the horizon.

Good News--The Freight Market is about to Soar

Transportation Industry is Zooming Up
I sure enjoy reading some good news.  I like news that shows we are on the upswing...news that shows forward movement is on the horizon. I read this very encouraging article by Craig Fuller,  CEO and founder of Sonar, Freightwaves.com.  Thanks Craig.   Here is my recap of and a link to the article:

Freight Market forecasting is tricky, especially today, because of the unprecedented nature of COVID-19.  Craig Fuller points out in his article that electronic tenders are an excellent way to forecast the future of the freight industry.  A tender is an actual, real time request for a load.  The tender is sent from a shipper to a trucking company a few days before the needed pick up.  Thus the tender request is a leading indicator of the direction of the freight market.

In the article Craig has excellent graphs showing this indicator.

Many groceries, consumer goods and healthcare products have consistent freight demand.  Other items such as beverages and produce are more seasonal in nature.  The predictable freight is contracted freight. Contracted freight is largely handled by major carriers.  When this contract market bottoms out then the spot freight market heats up.

Craig writes:  "Over the next few weeks we can expect parts of the economy that impact freight demand will start to come back...spot rates will firm starting in May."

That is excellent news for freight brokers.  Some of the industries that will be slow to restart like travel, large outdoor events and restaurants do not effect the freight industry in a major way.

Stay the course if you are a freight broker or take our course if you'd like to learn a career where the sky is the limit.

Great Remote Training

Need something to do?  Learn something new.  Brooke Training is approved by the Veteran's Administration and the United States Work Force Solutions to train remote.  Business is great for remote training.  Join others who are putting their extra time to good use.

The transportation industry is in high demand.  Learn the skills to be in this industry. Trucking is in high demand because of COVID 19.  It is a whole new world. Delivery of products and services is vital now and far into the future.  Our population is becoming adept at getting all they need through delivery services.  More of our products will be produced in the United States moving forward.  Those products will need to be delivered to distribution locations all over the country.

Freight Brokers and freight broker agents are in high demand.  They are needed to coordinate between the manufacturers/suppliers and the carriers/truckers.  Our freight broker training course teaches the skills needed to get started. Most of the work in done online and by phone, so it is a great work from home career.  This exciting and fast paced career is a pathway to monetary success.

We are seasoned professionals with more than three decades training, very humble of our 5 star reviews.  Listen to what others say about their experience with Brooke Training:

Vinny "lil Danny Devito" was a cool instructor. I know now what I didn't know before.  And thank you Vinny and Ms. Julie. -- work klean tv

Brooke Transportation Training School is phenomenal.  It exceeded my expectations and the instructor Vinny was amazing to work with. He throughly explained everything about the business and was a joy to work with.  There's a ton of value built into this program and you also get to speak with guest speakers that are currently in the business.  I'd definitely recommend this program to anyone that's looking to move into this career field.  I want to also thank Jeff and Jan Roach for putting on such a great program and atmosphere to learn in.--Lawrence Waller

Great Investment

Susie Moore (second from left) and her recent class of freight brokers

Every month I am so proud of my instructors as they train professionals how to break into freight brokering and how to succeed in the fast paced world of transportation.  Susie Moore is our instructor in Jacksonville, Florida.  She has a lifetime of experience in this world. Her father was an extremely successful freight broker, so she learned best practices from him.  She now trains other to find their way in the industry.  Here are testimonials from her February 2020 class.

I really enjoyed my experience with Brooke Training.  Ms. Susan was very detailed on all areas presented to our class.  She frequently asked questions and went back on tools to make sure, we as a class understood the process.  I am glad I had the opportunity to take this training with Brooke.  Thank you.

Big time Thanks!!

Jeff and Janis Roach

Take time to think through the amazing blessings you have in your life.  Here are a few of mine:

I am very thankful that God's mercy is never ending.   I’m immensely blessed with a  classy, beautiful, kind and gracious wife.   She had no idea where life would take us when she said "I do".

She is in charge of getting our vets in for training.  She does her work with all her heart.  She and I love
our vets.  We want to thank them for serving our country by training them for a new career. We are thankful for every soul God entrusts to us.  We take that trust very seriously.

I am thankful for the family of people that work with us in this endeavor.  We all really love each other.  We have a motivated and inspiring group of instructors and recruiters. I am grateful for everyone that is a part of our team by helping our clients in many ways:  the brokers, trucking companies, and broker resources presenters.  I am especially thankful for Julie, Cindy, Ping and George (my team).

Expressing the magnitude of my gratitude for my parents and my girls is nearly impossible.   My dad is my best friend and my mom would give her life for me.  I’m thankful for my 3 daughters and 3 granddaughters.  They keep me smiling and  laughing and full of joy.

I have great mentors who have poured life into me for which I am very grateful.

Our mission is to educate and motivate the go getters and the go givers. We strive to make a positive difference, not for our glory but because we all need help, humility and grace (especially me).

I am humbled by the great life God has given me.  I know I don't deserve nor do I appreciate it as I should.

The American Dream through an Indian's Heart

Krish Dhanam, Brooke Training Guest Speak extraordinaire

I hope to improve our freight broker training courses, continually.  Years ago I met an amazing man from Southern India named Krish Dhanam.  He embodies the American dream, rags to riches, immigrant to outstanding and proud American citizen.  He inspired me greatly I knew he could be an inspiration to our freight broker students, so I ask him to come speak to our live classes whenever he can.
Here is a bit of Krish's biography:
Krish was born in Vizag in Andhra Pradesh and finished his formal education with an MBA at the Institute of Management Technology in Ghaziabad. Equipped with that learning he migrated to the US in 1986 with his bride Anila. Winning a sales contest in 1990 earned him a ticket to a seminar conducted by the legendary motivator Zig Ziglar.  This chance encounter would be the catalyst that shaped the next two decades as Krish joined the Ziglar Corporation in 1991 as a telemarketer and eventually became their Vice President of Global Operations.
Through training, teaching and facilitating seminars all over the world, Krish launched his professional speaking career. Krish has successfully delivered his message of hope, humor and balance in seventy countries on six continents.
As a curriculum designer he has authored programs on staff development, sales, leadership, personal development and communication. His client list is the who’s who of global enterprise and he has received accolades from some of the most distinguished organizations including The United States Army, American Airlines, Etihad Airways, Christian Dior, Marriott Hotels, Cadbury Schweppes, Hitachi Consulting, Ryan, EDS, Texas Instruments, Toshiba, Pepsico, Enterprise Rent a Car and Energizer Batteries, Apollo Hospitals and Cognizant and after today Netzsch.

Moving toward Success

received an email from a very successful financial counselor that gave me 3 letters that are keys to success.  These keys apply in the financial world, as well as in the freight broker world:

D.D.A

Discipline Dictates Action

This applies in so many ways when it comes to achieving success. It was the discipline instilled in us growing up, that we continue to this day, that dictates our actions and is largely responsible for our success.

There are misguided people in this world who believe that success in life comes from luck or knowing the right people. While that does happen, it certainly isn’t the norm.

The truth is, success is dictated by daily habits and how we spend our time. Those who are most successful have very specific patterns. What may appear on the outside to be easy or lucky is simply the visible result of unseen disciplined effort.

I must admit that I have a tendency to break rules.  As a child I would be disciplined for my rebellion.  So I used to view discipline as negative and difficult. Now I see discipline as a means to achievement.  The truth is… in the long run, it’s far easier to be disciplined than living with the consequences of not being disciplined.

Every day is a new opportunity to be productive and find new success.  In freight brokering so much of success is determined by having the discipline to make a lot of phone calls, texts and emails to potential customers.  Truly listen and learn from that potential customer what they need.  Then have the discipline to follow through in filling their need.

At Brooke we teach a proven process for freight brokers.  Have any questions?  Give me a call.

A Peaceful, Prosperous Life

What is your formula for a peaceful, prosperous life?   Living at peace does not mean you live without conflict.  Just as having a prosperous life, does not mean you have a lot of money.

We live at peace when we learn from our mistakes, stay humble and trust in God.  Living that way gives us prosperity in our hearts.

We all have conflict in our lives with people and with situations. Living at peace, to me, means having an inner calm even when things around you are out of control.  I must admit I am sometimes the one who stirs up strife. When I do I purpose to make things right again.  We learn a lot from our mistakes. Take the time to figure out what you can learn from each mistake.  Stay humble and be willing to learn.  Ask God for guidance all along the way. After all He has it all figured out already.

My favorite way of smoothing out the conflict is with humor. Laughing of course lightens the mood. Laughing burns calories. And laughing releases "feel good" endorphins into your system.  Children tend to laugh much more than adults. So if you need more laughter in your life hang out with more little ones.  Their laugh is contagious even when you have no idea what they are laughing about. I would like laugh more.

Find something you love to do, work at it hard,  do it a lot and you will be prosperous.

As a freight broker I have had to deal with conflict when a load gets lost or when a carrier hits bad weather but I have experienced peace when I helped all the parties involved find solutions.

At our school we teach our students how to be a successful freight broker.  But I find more joy in coaching them on how to have a successful life in other ways.  Join us for a week of training soon. I'd love to chat with you about peace and prosperity.
