When the Going Gets Tough...

...the tough get going.  The "going" is a bit tough right now, but there are people who are succeeding despite the odds. Zig Ziglar said that in every recession there's always somebody in every business doing well.  What matters is your mindset.  

Focus on your business not on the worries of the world.  In our training classes we meet tenacious individuals who know the best investments are investments in them selves.  If one source of income is lagging, come up with another source.  Here's a nice little story.

We use a small mail/copy place to help us with a lot of our transactions.  The owner is a tenacious man from India.  He works hard helping others with their administrative needs but decided he could take on more.  He could reinvest his profits into another money generator.   He brought his "can do" spirit  to our Freight Broker training class.

He spent 2 months training, acquiring equipment and licensing needed to be in freight brokerage. He now has 2 businesses.  He runs the freight brokerage from the back of his mail/copy center.  He says it is not a difficult business, you just have to learn it.  His attitude is amazing. He is not overwhelmed.  He took the time to be prepared.  He is the perfect person to be successful.  

Krish Dhanam author of An American Dream from and Indian Heart encourages immigrants to focus on the opportunities for everyone in America.  He is now a riveting  speaker sought out by businesses across the country.  He came to this land with $7.00 in his pocket.  He found great success here.

Our founding fathers traveled oceans to get to America.  They came with a few belongings, some seeds in their pockets and a dream of a land ripe with potential.  

What can you do today to stir up the spirit that fights for success in uncharted lands?

If you are ever going to invest in yourself, do it now, don't be scared.  You may have failure but press on.  Failures are just one step closer to success.

Freight Broker Motivation

In our training we try to load our students up with motivation in becoming an excellent freight broker.  A key to being a success is staying inspired.  I am big fan of Zig Ziglar.  I use his quotes as words to live by.  I encourage my students, my friends, my family, my new acquaintance at Starbucks, well anyone who will listen, to heed Zig's wise advice.  Zig is no longer with us in body but he lives on with his legacy of great motivational quotes and his model of a life well lived.

So what are a few Zig words that are crucial to life and in being a great freight broker?

"You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help enough people get want they want."  Zig Ziglar

The key to finding success as a freight broker or freight broker agent is helping shippers get what they want. As well as helping carriers get what they want.  Shippers want their goods moved when they need, where they need at a price they need.  Carriers want their trucks full both to and from a destination and to be paid fairly in a timely manner.  That is freight brokering in a nutshell. 

A big component of a freight broker's job is listening to both sides and then negotiating a fair deal.  The first deal is the hardest because you haven't built up a reputation.  As you do a good job for one customer you will have confidence to move forward.  Your reputation in the industry is built one job at a time. 

Our tendency is to start the day thinking "what do I want today?"  According to Zig we should start the day thinking through who we can help get what they want.  Continue on the path of helping others and you will realize you have what you want.
