Amazing Work from Home Career

Most people would love to work from home if they could find the right opportunity.  Freight Brokering or being a freight broker agent is just such an opportunity.  It is a great career with great earning potential for those who are willing to work hard.

Brooke Transportation Training Solutions has the best training for freight brokering.  We teach our students how to be a success in freight brokering.  We work with them on how to work from home.  This is really the best work from home occupation as far as the cost of education relative to how much you can really earn.

As a freight broker you are the middle man between those who have goods and those who need goods.  A freight broker negotiates with truckers/carriers and with the manufacturers to pick up goods, move the goods and deliver the goods.  A freight broker agent works under the authority of a parent company similar to the way an insurance agent or a real estate agent works under an umbrella company.

A freight broker is his or her own boss.  You are in charge of your own future.  The opportunity is incredible.

Presentation Skills

I took a class on public speaking in high school.  My teacher told us that this was the most important class we'd ever take.  At the time I thought the teacher was just tooting his horn but now I understand.  I need presentation skills throughout life.  As a freight broker every meeting and every sales call is a presentation.  How I present my services is just as important as the content.  Because no matter how good a freight broker I am, if I don't present my services well to my potential client I most likely will not land the shipping contract.

Here's a blog post from a trainer friend, Honey Shelton of Interaction Training.  Read and enjoy.

When a presentation or speaker amazes you, do you ever stop to think you are seeing only the last 20 minutes of a process that took hours or work? On average presenters devote 20 to 60 minutes of time for each minute of a finished presentation. That means that a 10-minute presentation can take up to 6 hours to prepare. Keep everything organized when you are working on your presentation with these four tips:
Who is my audience?
What does your audience know about your subject? Why is your audience listening to your presentation? With what attitude do they approach your presentation? Understanding who your audience is will help you in choosing the right words, graphics and length of your presentation.

What is the purpose?
Are you persuading your audience or are you simply informing then? Are you training them on a specific topic? As with the first question, the answer will help you in choosing how to develop your presentation in terms of wording and graphics.
What style?
Once you have determined the audience and purpose of your presentation, you can consider what style is appropriate. Perhaps a problem-method-solution approach is best? Maybe it suffices to only place outlines in your presentation and engage your audience with your stories? Perhaps you want to test your audience and repeat your key points throughout the presentation?

Rehearse
Even the most talented speakers need to rehearse thoroughly. Initially, don’t worry about your posture or tone. Once you feel confident about the content of your presentation you can tweak the flow and make sure your transitions are effective, both in your voice and on your slides. Record your presentation when you are happy with it. Embrace your style, be natural. The payoff from rehearsing is that you will be more relaxed when you do your live presentation. Recording your practice session is beneficial in numerous ways. A recording offers a change in perspective: now you are an attendee and you watch and listen in that role. The recording also helps you fine-tune what you want to say, how you want to say it and tighten up your time line.  People that like to make a difference find that helpful presentations can do just that.  Make a difference.
You will not have to prepare a sales call as extensively as a formal presentation but the time you invest in preparing well will pay off.  With each call your presentation will improve if you are always looking for ways to improve.  I look at every presentation as an opportunity for a new relationship and hopefully some new business as well.

Freight Brokers, Trained and Ready

Brooke Training's  top notched instructors once again trained a great group of professionals to be freight brokers.  Here's what the students said about their class experience:

"Great instructors, very fun and informational.  I would recommend this class to anyone.  It was nice having real brokers here and getting to hear what they had to say.

I would love to come back for the advanced class." --Jacob Pratt

"I met a great group of new people who I believe and want to become new partners or collaborators in the Freight Logistics business in the future.

I gained in depth insight on the various nuances of Freight Broking and it was helpful.

Vinny’s class was on point and covered more than I expected regarding sales/brokering techniques."
--Troy B.

 "
I wasn’t really sure what to expect out of the class.  Twenty years of driving experience and I was ready for a change.  This class showed me a completely different point of view about the industry.  The class was very informative and the instructors were excellent.  I am leaving with a great understanding of the Broker-Agent side of the industry.  I would definitely recommend this course to anyone serious about brokering." --
Adams Banks

"Very informative.  I was beyond terrified upon starting this course.  Vinny is very knowledgeable about sales and the transportation business.  He held my attention and was very funny.  The course changed my whole outlook on the trucking business from both angles.  Tish is incredible and I loved the way she handled her business.

Overall this class was awesome!!!  Love on top of love all the positive things that I received here.  I can honestly say that I feel comfortable starting my own brokerage business."--
Dee Mayberry

"The experience in the class or with the Brooke team was amazing.  Instructor Vinny was the right person to teach the class.  His energy and knowledge of sales and the industry exceeded my expectations coming to this class.

Tish as well did an awesome job with showing us her business and giving a real live snapshot of how the business can be.  Overall if I had to rate this class, I would rate it a ten hands down.  I will be coming back to the class for continuing education.  Thanks for having me and look forward to future classes, and relationships.

                               Experience:  Live calls to customers

                               Cold calling to Manufactures

                               Speaking with A.L.M.E."

--A. Lewis Sr.

"The class was very informative.  The teacher, Mr. Vinny, was awesome and patient with his teaching.  I like that he used different methods, not just reading, but participation methods.  I also saw that having companies come in to tell us about their company and wanting to hire us was great and beneficial for everyone.   Meeting Tish, was awesome too, because we got a chance to see what she does on a daily basis and she seems to be very successful with what she does, and that encourages me."

-- Robin Monley

"Great class.  Great instructors.  Very informative for beginners and for those that have had some experience in the trucking industry.

I had a great time in the class.  I was able to see the other side of the trucking industry and at the same time I learned the mistakes I was making as a carrier.  I loved the fact that they put you in “Hot Water” completely taking you out of your comfort zone.  I believe that helped me understand, my first week, what I could improve and what my strengths were."--M.A.

"As a carrier Brooke Broker Training Solutions was an awesome experience.  The instructor and instructors were informative to the point that it gave me confidence to run my business.

Brooke Transportation Training Solutions was great.  I would recommend it to everyone needing their service.
"  --K. B.

"In the past week, I have experienced some important values and principals, not only in freight brokering; more so as an individual.  I would like to share that one of the more important tools of freight brokering is that I have received is building bridges (relationships, trust, stability) for long term purposes.

In addition to receiving great understanding of freight brokering, I have to definitely say that I am leaving with something much more valuable than resource tools.  Thanks to the Brooke's staff:  Vinny, Tish, Bobby and the other speakers."  --Desmond Adams

"I would like to take the time to express my overwhelming sense of gratitude for the incredible abundance of knowledge shared by our instructors Vinny & Tish.  They went above and beyond to make sure the information being shared was thoroughly understood.  I will highly recommend BTTS to friends and family for years to come.

I am extremely happy with my decision to attend BTTS.  I only wish I could have attended sooner.  Our instructor Vinny is by far, one of, if not the best freight broker instructor in America!  I look forward to a long lasting relationship with BTTS.  Thank you Jeff & Janis for your vision in starting BTTS.  God Bless You!" -- Jessie Garcia, Jr.

So if you want to be encouraged, make friends, learn great freight brokering skills and have a week to spare, come join us for our next class.  Class schedule is on our website:  www.transportationtraining.com

Texas and the Price of Gas

-->
Even with lower oil prices, Texas will add more jobs in 2015

Just as we are enjoying low numbers at the gas pump, we are experiencing  job loss because of the lower oil price.  Lower fuel prices help truckers make more money per load but is there a downside to the low price?  We have heard newscasts of personnel cuts at BP and Apache because of the low cost per barrel.  I found this prediction that is quite promising:  Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas Senior Economist and Research Officer, Keith Phillips, projects Texas should add 235,000 to 295,000 new jobs in 2015.  The growth represents about a 2 to 2.5 percent increase in jobs, but lower than 2014 employment growth at about 3.6 percent.

Phillips presented the economic data as part of his Texas Economic Outlook at San Antonio’s Federal Reserve location.  Philips states, “The sharp decline in oil prices has created much uncertainty in our outlook for state job growth this year, but we’re viewing it as a headwind for the Texas economy. However, Texas has a diversified economy, and while the drop in oil prices slows job growth, it won’t send the state into a recession like it did in the 1980s.”
Regions dependent on oil production, such as the Permian Basin and the Eagle Ford Shale, will sharply cut drilling if crude prices continue to trade at $50 a barrel or less, according to Philips. Houston will also experience a drop in oil jobs as well if prices stay at or below $50 a barrel. However, Philips states employment growth will remain positive for 2015.

Goldman Sachs reduced its six-month WTI predictions by half, to $39 a barrel from $75, and for 12 months to $65 from $80 a barrel. Read more…

Goldman suggests the market needs a prolonged lower crude oil price of around $42 a barrel so the market demand and supply can reach an equilibrium.

Get More Done in 2015

Do you feel there aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done?
Staying productive and focused during the day is often a difficult and tedious undertaking. When faced with a daunting list of tasks and numerous distractions, you can only hope you’ve made some difference in your workload.
With little time and a big list, try boosting up your productivity with these easy ways.
1. Finish The Awful Tasks First Thing In The Morning
Not every item on your to-do list is exciting or pleasurable. There will be times when you have to shovel the driveway after 3 feet of snow dumped the previous night. Or, you might have to file the stack of papers that have been collecting on your kitchen table for the past week.
Whatever the task, the one that you feel is the most awful, is the one you should probably be doing first thing in the morning. This ensures that you will get it done and you can look forward to doing something else less awful.
2. Take Frequent Breaks
Research has shown that sitting for long periods of time over many years can contribute to early heart attacks. To cut your chances of serious health problems related to sitting, ensure you take many mini breaks throughout your day. Go for a walk or do some quick exercises to clear your head and help your heart.
3. Stay Clear Of Distractions
Computers, TV and your smartphone are all culprits of wasting your time away. I know it’s tempting to quickly check your Twitter or Facebook, but before you know it, you’ve spent 20 minutes “hashtagging” and “liking”.
Take it from me, if you want to stay productive and feel like you’ve accomplished something, stay away from time wasting distractions.
If you find need to go online or check your messages, be accountable and set a timer.
4. Avoid Multi-Tasking
Everyone’s done their share of multi-tasking, thinking they can get more things accomplished. But if you add the time and the likelihood of completing more than one thing at a time, chances are, you don't complete any task with excellence.
Reserve tasks like specialized attention tasks, sequential tasks, and thinking-type tasks to needing your full attention. Don’t be surprised if you’ve increased your productivity by at least 30%.
5. Speed Up Your Morning Routine
An average woman can spend up to 6.4 hours a week and men up to 4.5 hours a week getting ready and looking their best. While your appearance is an important quality, it shouldn’t consume up to two weeks of your time.
Try these tips to cut your morning routine in half.
  • Take shorter showers. An average shower takes 20-30 minutes, but you can shave off precious minutes simply by using a 2-in-1 shampoo.
  • Do some of your routine the night before. Fill your coffee maker with ground coffee. Organize your “to-do” list while watching your evening TV shows. If you have children, get their backpacks organized and hung by the door for morning.
  • Have a quick breakfast. Opt for grab-and-go foods for hectic mornings. They don’t have to be pre-packaged or unhealthy. Hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, granola bars and a nutritious muffin are all healthy and quick to eat.
These little things may only take you 10 minutes to do, but it will save you an hour the next day.
6. Get Up An Hour Early
Try waking up before everyone else. By being up an hour before anyone else, you won’t be bothered by family distractions. This leaves you time to work on big projects or organizational tasks that could benefit from a fresh morning perspective.
Or, you can use this time instead to work on balancing your priorities. Doing yoga, praying or even writing in the morning can help make you better focused, less stressed and ready to take on the day.
7. Keep Your Environment Cool
I’m sure you’ve noticed during hot summer days, all you want to do is lay around and relax. Maybe even take a little snooze. While doing this is a great opportunity to have some relaxation time, you won’t be very productive with your eyes shut.

Moving forward,

Jeff Roach
