Should I go to Freight Broker Training?

Since I have a freight broker training school of course I will say, yes go through freight broker training school.  But I truly don't say that just because I have a school and want your money-LOL.   I say that because I have watched both those who start their freight brokerage without training and those who have been through training.  I've seen both succeed and I've seen both fail.  You can get the best training yet not work hard enough or smart enough to land the accounts that will grow over time.  You can go in untrained and figure it out on your own.  But how many careers can you launch successfully without some education?

One thing I know for sure, when you start your freight brokerage without training your road to success will be longer.  Many of our graduates said they wish they had not waited to get training.  At Brooke Transportation Training Solutions we teach a process.  We share valuable resources and techniques.  We make sure our students understand how to use the technologies available to the best of their ability.

All of our instructors are in the transportation business or have spent years in the business and now are giving back by training others.  Their wealth of knowledge, wisdom and insight is invaluable.  I am a strong believer in continuing education.  I know the value of having mentors in business and in life.  My mentors have steered me away from many cliffs that could have been devastating.

If you are thinking about starting a career as a freight broker or freight broker agent, give me a call.  I won't pressure you I'll just tell you my story and ask about yours.  I take many calls from freight brokers who just need a little advise or encouragement.  They may or may not come to my school in the future.  But I believe you get what you give.  If I am stingy with my time others won't give me the time of day.  If I give some help then when I need help there will be someone there to help me.

We only have one chance to make the most of today.  Enjoy.

A Truck Driver’s New Job

Robert, a laid off truck driver, gave me a call. His wife had found Brooke Transportation Training blog while helping her man in his search for a new career.  She gave Robert the number. Robert called me to ask me a lot of questions about our freight brokers classes. We had a great talk.  Here is his story:

“I’ve been a truck driver for 19 years.  For the past 6 years I have been a contract driver for the post office driving a route between distribution centers in Virginia.  The post office stopped my route in March.  This is the first time in my life I have been laid off.  The first time I have applied for unemployment. I could get another truck driving job but I would most likely have had to move.  With my post office route my wife and I were able to move out to some acreage and buy some ponies.  As a freight broker I will be able to work out of my ranch, take care of my ponies and be with my family.

I found the freight broker online training course through my local community college’s partnership with the online education company (Ed2go) that administers the course written by Brooke Training.  I researched it online.  It was perfect.  I could do all my work from home.  I have 6 months to complete the course but my plan is to finish in 2 months, get started and still have 4 months I can go back and review some of the things in the course.

And I won’t even have to pay for the course.  My unemployment contact gave me a grant application.  If approved I won’t have to pay anything back.

Ideally I want to be an independent freight broker but realistically I know I’ll need to be an agent for an established freight broker.  They’ll help me with cash flow, legalities and other expenses.  It is a low cost business to start.

It is a little scary, but I’m looking forward to my new career“

Motivated Freight Brokers

We enjoyed another week of training some motivated freight brokers.  Thank you to our faithful instructor Vinny and my entire team.  I can tell you all day how good I think the class will be for you but my words are not nearly as powerful as those who have taken the course.  So take a few minutes to read what our most recent Dallas live course graduates say about their experience.  If you’d like to be challenged, develop confidence and be encouraged while learning a new skill give us a call. 214-206-1169.

Here are our graduates testimonies:

Before starting the broker training, I didn’t know what to expect.  I wanted to learn the brokerage business and the ins and outs, and not know if this training would be enough to start my business and be successful.  After the first two days of the session I developed a lot more confidence in myself and ability to be successful in this profession.  In addition, the instructor was able to answer all of my questions pertaining to personal development and business success.

Knowing that my success is based on the work I put into it and knowledge gained through Brooke Training I am ready to start, or rather continue my journey.   --Sequoiah  Brown

I’ve learned a great business model to follow in my efforts to build my business.  Vinny’s personal development “focus” was a plus in this class.  I would recommend BTTS for anyone interested in the 3rd party logistics before making the career change.  Thanks for everything.

I want to personally thank Jeff Roach for sharing his life experiences with our class.  --Marc Stephens

If one word could describe my time spent here with Brooke’s team it would be encourage!  Relationship building takes great encouragement; I found a new me and I have learned how to share this with the world.  I owe this to my great instructor Vinny.  I now can adjust and be more active in building relationships with value.

I uncovered that being emotional with care, I am able to use logic to gain better results and productivity as a broker, business owner, and individual.  Thanks Vinny for the life teaching that will remain with me if I put the work in and build relationships with people of integrity, I will become a 24 hour champion! --Troy Dean Booth

When I started this class I expected to learn the basics of truck brokerage.  I got so much more.  I had no idea what I was in for.  Vinny taught me so much about myself I had no idea I needed to know myself before learning the trucking industry.

The positive experience I got from the Brooke Team was honesty about what to expect in the business, learning about what to get from myself to achieve my goals in my life.  Knowing Vinny is a life changing experience.  I feel so fortunate to have been blessed by the teachings of Vinny and Brooke.  Well worth the money.  Thank you so much. --Laura Roland

I researched a few schools and the first time I called it was like I was being sold to a college.  They wanted my credit card number and told me my class would be on line.  When I called BTTS, I spoke with Jeff Roach.  When I told him who I was, and what I wanted, he said “read all about us, then if you like it, come to my live class.  I liked what I read about the training and I enjoyed our conversation. I came here to learn brokerage, but today I am leaving a better man, father, and customer service provider.  With the tools you learn from Vinny, I know I am prepared for a successful life and new career.  Thank you Vinny, Jeff, Jan, and the Guest.  --Sir Thomas Gaither

Close More Sales

A key element in being a freight broker star is your sales ability.  Being "in sales" scares many professionals when in actuality sales is a part of just about any job out there.

I started my sales career selling door to door in my neighborhood as a kid. I just about always got the top sales award for selling whatever the school fund rasing was that year. I still use the same techniques, just honed a bit for my more sophisticated audience.

I love to sell.  I don't love to try to talk people into buying something they don't want or need. Selling, in my definition, is finding out what someone needs and helping them with that need.  So if you enjoy helping people get what they want, then sales is a great job for you.

As a freight broker I work with professionals who produce things that are sold all over the country.  Company executives need to be involved in the production of their product, the marketing of that product and in managing of the people they employ.  They do not need to get bogged down in the delivery of the products.  That is where a freight broker comes in.  I work out a deal to move their product where they need, in a timely manner at a price on which we agree.

Prior to working out that deal with the manufacturer, I need to have a good idea of a carrier that can move the product where needed at a negotiated price and when needed.  So when I get the deal to move some freight I can get it done.

After the deal has been sealed, the freight broker must follow the shipment from pick up to delivery to avoid problems.  Weather, traffic and drivers needs all can sabatoge the delivery.  A great broker will work to avoid or work around any delay that may occur.  I advise brokers to keep the manufacturer abreast of any issues that arise.  When a broker admits when things are not going as planned, he will gain a reputation as an honest broker who works hard to keep his customer informed of important issues.  That is the kind of broker that will have plenty of work.  That is the best way to close more sales.

We have a day dedicated to the sales aspect of freight brokering in our basic freight broker training course.  Interested?  To sign up, view our schedule or for questions go to our website or call 214-206-1169.

Knowledgeable Freight Brokers

We finished up training new freight brokers last week at our Dallas/Fort Worth class.  Our lead instructor Vinny did an amazing job at teaching and interacting with the class.  We asked them to write out their impression of the week of class.  Here's the edited version of some of their responses:

“Good Class.  Gained knowledge and experience in how to become a Broker Agent or Broker.“ --David Johnson

“What I like about the course is that the instructor allows students to dialogue and ask questions during the lesson... constantly reiterating the material so that it’s learned and not memorized.

The depth of knowledge that Vinny has is unbelievable.  What I am learning more than anything is that Vinny, is not only teaching me how to be a broker but is giving me the tools necessary to be a salesperson for any aspect of life.

I’m truly excited that I selected this course... I’m  ready to hit the ground running.”--Makita C. Wells

“(
I benefited from) gaining knowledge about being a Broker/Agent in a demanding transportation industry. Vinnie is great.”-- Michael Thompson

Learned good amount of brokerage of sales & marketing in this business.  Great discussion about special situations.

Small group.  Good communication.  Good knowledge.  Felling motivated to continue. Confidence.  Realistic Goals.

I like everything. -- Will Tang

Thank you Vinnie and the gang for teaching.  Good luck graduates with your new exciting career as a freight broker.

Graduate Testimonials

These comments from our most recent graduates make me very proud and humbled.  I started Brooke Transportation Training Solutions with the goal of "under promising and over delivering" (as Zig Ziglar would say).  Based on the words of these class members that is what we have done.
When I first decided to attend the Brooke Training School, I was a little bit unsure if I had made the right decision to invest $2,500.00 for one week of training?  But after the First Day!! I knew that I made the right choice.  Our instructor Vinny, gave us so much insight into the Freight Broker Industry that I was amazed.  I have already recommended the class to 2 of my friends.  I am so excited to get started as an agent.  I would recommend this class to anyone who is looking for a career and is willing to work hard!
--CW
If I had to change one thing about this weekly training – It would be NOTHING.  My instructor was able to present all of this new transportation knowledge and insight in a manner which was clear and concise (to the point).  I really feel like this was the best $2,200/$2,400 I ever spent on my personal investment…I would recommend this school to persons who really want to get insight into the Brokering Business.
--Veronica Walker

This was a wonderful class.  I came in to Brooke Transportation Training Solutions Class knowing absolutely nothing about Brokering for Transportation Company.  But now I feel like I can go out into the world and compete with the best.  Our instructor Vinny is the best teacher I have ever had.  He took his time and answered all questions.  His sense of humor also made the time go extremely fast, thank you Vinny.  And thank you Brook Transportation.

--NiEtta Renolds

I recently attended the Brooke Transportation Basic Broker Course.  The training and instructors were the best that I have ever seen.  I am a retired Military Officer and Have attended many training classes both civilian and governmental sponsor.  Vinny is great at passing knowledge about sales and how to develop a customer.  His attitude and energy are contagious.  Vinny is a wealth of knowledge.  Tish Cozine is a very good instructor and her knowledge of the load boards and obtaining carrier information was wonderful.  Janis helped with the V.A. in getting my class paid for which was AWESOME.  It took a few months to get thru all the government red tape but with Janis’s help we got it accomplished.

The Brooke Training made you feel like family in the way that they made sure that you have all their contact information.  Thank you very much.
--Joseph Morris
The instructors were very nice and helpful, very open to answer any questions. They made sure that you understood the material and gave great feed back.
