Who Do You Listen To?

One voice says, "you are a winner."  Another claims, "you aren't college material".

Those were two voices in my past.  I had to choose to believe the voice that told me I could be successful... along time before I actually achieved success.  To this day I am amazed at the incredible life, family and business I enjoy every day.   My desire is to help others along in their pursuit of success.

I was interviewed by Faith Washington and spoke about the crucial encouragement I got from the amazing woman who told me I was a winner.  I am now honored to have the opportunity to pay it forward.  We have many disabled vets come through our freight broker training course.  Many of them have a similar story to mine.

I invite you to come to our Brooke Transportation Training.  We teach skills but more importantly we inspire all our students towards success.

Fishing Freight Broker

A great advantage of being a freight broker or freight broker agent is being able to work anywhere with conductivity.   I love fishing, especially at Florida's beautiful white sand beaches and in their turquoise waters.

When I need a fishing excursion to clear my cobwebs, I plan a trip.  I take my phone and my computer with me, get a place that has a good internet connection and I'm good to go.  I can do my work and enjoy some refreshing sea air at the same time.

I believe that atmosphere is very important for mental health.  Working from home is a great perk but can get lonely.  Most of America learned to work from home this past year.  It is important to have a work/home/play balance.  That became a bit of a challenge when home was the workplace.  Since I've been working from home for years it was not an adjustment for me.

In our freight broker training course we teach the skills needed to be successful as a freight broker.  We also share a plethora of advice on how to work from home, how to have that work life balance, how to stay focussed and inspired.  We give detailed information on how to structure the day.  You learn how to set goals with a mission statement for your business.

Being an entrepreneur is exhilarating when you see your plans falling into place.  Each day you succeed in hitting goals you are more inspired to continue on.

We are so proud of the success we see in our graduates.  We would love to take you along for the ride.  Our testimonials say it all.  Read a few, or watch them on video.  Our graduates are not only inspired for their new career they gain new inspiration for life.

You Need a Mission Statement

Running a business without a mission statement is aimless.  You need a target.  A mission statement communicates to everyone in the company your goal, your target.  A mission statement communicates to the world your goal, your target.

My mission statement is:

To educate and motivate go-getters and go-givers.

James Cash Penney, the founder of JC Penney, created his around a simple mission statement: “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you” — the Golden Rule.

Mr. Penney said, “Give me a stock clerk with a goal, and I'll give you a man who will make history. Give me a man with no goals, and I'll give you a stock clerk.”

He understood the importance of having goals that reflect your mission. Having a clear mission allowed him to stay focused and build a successful business in which he could take pride.

Missions statements are created to answer two questions: “Why do we do what we do?” And, “How can we do it?”

Just as it’s important for your business to have a mission statement, it’s just as important to have a personal mission statement. Having a clear vision of your mission will enable you to reach your goals without compromising your values.

So, how do you create a personal mission statement? Here are some things to consider:

1.) Determine what values are most important to you. This should be more than just about making money. Dig deep and explore your core values. What do you never want to compromise?

2.) Look at others whom you admire. Think of someone you admire - it may be a historical figure, a public figure, or even a friend or a family member. What qualities make them admirable in your eyes? Try to adopt those qualities into your mission statement.

3.) Look in the mirror. Take a good long look at the person you see. How do you view yourself? How do others view you? What is working for you? Incorporate the characteristics that you are most proud of into your mission. Also, look at what you could do to improve. Incorporate character traits that you are currently lacking but are desirable to you. You’ll be surprised how well you improve on something once it is stated in your mission.

4.) Hone in our your purpose. This one can be hard but think long and hard about this one. What is it that you are here for? It may be to build an empire. It may be to inspire others to live a better life. Or, it may be to work hard and take care of your loved ones. Your purpose is your choice, but make sure to be clear and decisive when determining what it is.

5.) Create specific outcome-focused goals. Now that you’ve determined what’s important, who you want to model, who you want to be, and what your purpose is, it’s time to set some goals. When creating goals, be very specific and write them down. Create both short-term and long-term goals. Create goals for multiple areas of your life: business, relationships, financial, spiritual, health, and happiness.

For example, here’s my mission statement:

Most important values to me: To live my life with integrity, humility, and grace.

Living like those I admire: To believe in others and mentor others - as others have believed in me and mentored me.

Looking in the mirror: To give more than I take. To be thankful for the little things, and remember that every day is a gift. To put God first, family second, and business third.

Honing in on my purpose: To educate and motivate the go-getters and the go-givers, not for glory or money, but because we all need help.

Goals: To always be working to improve my spiritual life and my personal relationships. To exercise every day and eat healthy food to fuel my body. To grow my business and be innovative with new ideas to make a positive impact on as many individuals as possible.

Remember to always continue crafting and improving your mission statement. This is something you live by, and it truly holds power. We'd love to hear your personal mission statement with us in the comments.

*Some of the information from this post was inspired by this source: Live Bold and Bloom

Martin Luther King, Jr

Today we celebrate the life and accomplishments of a great man,  Martin Luther King, Jr.  Although he didn't have a long life, he had a life of great impact that lives on in the dreams of others.

He was a Baptist Preacher who had a dream.  A dream that is one of the founding principals of our great United States. A dream that was God designed:  All men are created equal.  We are all made in the image of God.  We all have great value, not based on what we've done but on who made us.  We have purpose.  We have a life to live out the best we can.  Too often we measure our success on what we have accomplished, the rewards and bonuses we have received. But true success comes from being the best you can be.

Martin Luther King saw that America was not treating all men equal.  He felt God's call on his life to make a difference with his words and actions.   60 years after his assassination, we can still learn a lot about how to live our best life and encourage others to succeed from this man of integrity and courage.  He said many inspiring things. Here are a few of his great quotes:

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."

"History will have to record the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people."

“A lie cannot live.”

“If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward."

Take some time today to read more on the amazing life of this great man of American History.  Reflect on your own life, what is your purpose and how can you also make a positive impact in your piece of the world.

Successful Inspiration

Need a little inspiration?  When I first started my business, man, it was so exciting.  Each day brought new challenges, new opportunities, and some new failures.  After a misstep, I'd pick myself up and keep going.

But then I got in the grove to the point it was easy to slip into complacency.  In this season of Corona where getting business and keeping business is twice as hard, it is a challenge to keep up the energy level.

When you hit a wall and need someone to give you a nudge, call us.  Because we have worked with many professionals for decades we have heard most of the vines that tangle up a new broker.  We love to coach others on the road to success.  Let us get in your corner and rev up the revenue.

I just received a testimonial from one of our coaching clients:

I have the tools I need to act.  I feel excited, confident and energized.
Tomorrow I am going to take action.
I got more out of 2 hours with Vinny (a Brooke instructor)
than I did the whole course
with the other company!  - Van Penn

Thanks for the testimonial.  We strive to provide true value in all we do.  That gives us motivation and confidence.

Want to Succeed??

“The greatest source of happiness is the ability to be grateful at all times.” – Zig Ziglar

Grateful people are successful.  Why?  Because they are always looking for the upside, the winning way, and the possibilities.  Zig Ziglar was one of the most positive people who every lived...and he was highly successful and taught others to follow that plan.  I am a huge fan of Zig.

What is a key to success to anyone starting out in business, starting a new job, or new career?

Seek out others who have succeeded in that arena.

Seek out others who are positive people.  Avoid those that will drone on and on about what doesn’t work and how hard it is and how to failure is so sure…  It sounds like a no brainer but it may actually be challenging to find positive voices.

Our natural tendency is to remember the bad things that happened in our day.  Do you remember the one rude guy who cut you off in traffic or the 1,000 of guys who drove nicely next to you?  When you recall your day do positive or negative experience stand out in your mind?

We of course know that no matter what you do, there will be good days, even great days of success, mixed with downer days.  Practice viewing challenges as opportunities...not obstacles to your success.  When we surround ourselves with others who stay positive, we are much more likely to stay positive.

Have you noticed every morning the news reports  how many new cases of  Corona virus popped up?  I have heard very few reports about the 96%  recovery rate.  I have heard few reports on how incredibly unlikely it is that you will contract the disease (like .0008% chance).

It is a serious disease that I certainly don’t want to get, but I’m not living in fear…I am going on with my school, encouraging students and graduates towards success. I will stay positive through this.

Stay safe, stay positive and hang out with others who encourage positivity.

Moving toward Success

received an email from a very successful financial counselor that gave me 3 letters that are keys to success.  These keys apply in the financial world, as well as in the freight broker world:

D.D.A

Discipline Dictates Action

This applies in so many ways when it comes to achieving success. It was the discipline instilled in us growing up, that we continue to this day, that dictates our actions and is largely responsible for our success.

There are misguided people in this world who believe that success in life comes from luck or knowing the right people. While that does happen, it certainly isn’t the norm.

The truth is, success is dictated by daily habits and how we spend our time. Those who are most successful have very specific patterns. What may appear on the outside to be easy or lucky is simply the visible result of unseen disciplined effort.

I must admit that I have a tendency to break rules.  As a child I would be disciplined for my rebellion.  So I used to view discipline as negative and difficult. Now I see discipline as a means to achievement.  The truth is… in the long run, it’s far easier to be disciplined than living with the consequences of not being disciplined.

Every day is a new opportunity to be productive and find new success.  In freight brokering so much of success is determined by having the discipline to make a lot of phone calls, texts and emails to potential customers.  Truly listen and learn from that potential customer what they need.  Then have the discipline to follow through in filling their need.

At Brooke we teach a proven process for freight brokers.  Have any questions?  Give me a call.

Freight Broker Freedom

As we celebrate the birth of our nation, take time to reflect on all the freedoms you have because of the sacrifices of the generations before us.  We are a young nation compared to others yet we are blessed with a great economy, great friends, family and food.  It is easy to focus on what we want instead of what we already have.  An attitude of gratitude is contagious.  Be thankful and others around you will start to count their blessings as well.

One of the freedoms in our society is the freedom to be your own boss.  A freight broker is their own boss whether you work as an agent of another freight broker or you start your own brokerage. I have done both.  I have enjoyed incredible success and now I am privileged to teach others how to enjoy this fast paced, rewarding career.

There are processes I teach that help a new broker find success.  I can't guarantee success because success is dependent on the effort of the individual.  Like the fireworks pictured, we are all unique and the light we shine sparks in its own creative way.  Find your spark and work the process and you too can find success.

3 Successes and a Failure

I have found success,  yet along the way I've had some stumbles.  Not all my projects have turned out the way I envisioned.  I give myself permission to fail.  Yet when I fall, I have to dust myself off and get going again.

So what do I think is needed to succeed?

First, focus more on giving more than you take.

Secondly, learn and work a proven process.  The process takes the pressure off of the person.

Thirdly, always look for ways to get lean.  Reduce costs while increasing sales.

My biggest challenge is figuring out what project to do next.

I am a believer and know that my success is because I've been given a lot of grace and blessing.  I'm not always great at it, but I try to be a giver.  I've been given back much more than I've given out.

Think about your definition of success and go for it, full speed ahead.

Business Among Friends

Recently I spent some time talking with Joe, a freight broker friend who has hired brokers from our freight broker school graduates.  I asked him about his experience with Brooke Transportation Training Solutions.  Here's what he said:

I started hiring graduates from Brooke's school about 2 months ago and have been very pleased the level of training they have for such a short course.  I met Jeff about 7 years ago when he came in and did training with the sales staff of the brokerage firm I was working with back then.  I started my own freight brokerage about a year and a half ago. It has been going real well.  So, I needed more agents.  That is when I started going in and interviewing Jeff's graduates.  I offer all his graduates an opportunity to work with our brokerage.

In the last few months I have hired several agents from Brooke's graduates.  It has been a great match.  The graduates come in ready to go. I would recommend BTTS to any freight broker who needs agents.  The key to success with these new agents is on going mentoring after they finish their training.  I spend time encouraging our new agents.  I am sometimes the trainer and sometimes the psychiatrist.  We handle administrative needs of our agents so they can focus on making sales, finding new customers who need our help in transporting their loads.

I love working with Veterans.  I'm a veteran myself.  Lots of vets go through Brooke's training, So finding a great agent who is a vet is easy with Brooke.

The great thing about being a freight broker is you have the ability to earn what you want based on the amount of work you want to put in.  As a broker you have to be persistent.  There will be good and bad days but if you keep at it you will be a success.  Don't give up.

Thanks Joe.  If you are a broker looking for agents, or needing some training for your agents give me a call.  If you are wanting to learn to be a freight broker come to one of our courses soon.  You can meet Joe.

Sales Pitch

Why do they call it a sales pitch?  I'm not a fan of that term.  A sales pitch sounds like something is being thrown at me.  What do you do when something is thrown at you, especially when it is thrown at you fast?  You duck, of course.  If it is a slow pitch you might catch it, but a fast pitch unless you are in the big leagues, you dodge the ball coming at your head.

So I like to think of my sales approach more like a climb up a tall mountain.  You climb a tall mountain one step at a time.  Slow and steady.  The more you learn about the mountain path just like the more you learn about your client's needs, the easier the climb.  You can anticipate the sharp curves and the holes in the trail if you have learned a bit about the trail.  As you know your client's needs you can address them with confidence.  You can learn about your client by reading their website, talking with others who know them and through interaction with the potential client.

Freight brokers offer a great service to their clients.  Some clients recognize that value others have to be shown the value through education and great service.  I truly enjoy getting to know people.  I think that is one of the keys to my success as a freight broker and as a freight broker trainer.  People enjoy working with those who know them and respect them for who they are.

I train my freight broker students to make lots of phone calls.  So when they need a break from the phone calls I recommend doing  a little internet research on a potential customer.

I suggest potential students of mine read everything I have on my website, facebook and blog before they sign up for my course.  I want them to know me, know my values and read testimonials of what others have said about the course.  I want them to know that I want them to succeed.  I want them to learn what they need.  And I want them to have confidence in the process we teach at our freight broker training courses.

Have a successful Monday.

Freight Broker Tips

As a freight broker or freight broker agent you must develop self-motivation, resourcefulness and be persuasive.

As a freight broker or even as an agent you are the one that has to get yourself going everyday. You also need to be self-motivated in order to discipline yourself to constantly make the calls necessary to secure and build your business. Just because you finish the freight broker course and hang your shingle out, the business won’t just start coming to you. YOU go out to them. As you get to know prospects and their needs, you can begin to persuade them why they should want to use you. You need to believe in yourself first for others to believe in you. You need to be resourceful. Be creative and think of ways that you can help make their job easier, and services that you can offer.

Set yourself apart from your competition by offering more and offering unique services if at all possible. Remember that you are a service company, so the more ways that you can think of to bring added values and extra personal customer service to your prospective clients, the better chance you have of winning them over.  A well serviced customer will find value in you and hopefully become a longtime client.

I can’t emphasize enough that winning in this industry is a process that takes time. Focus on daily progress, not perfection. Just like running a marathon- ten more yards every day for a year, and you’re ready to do the marathon.

Jeff Roach

Millennials in the Workplace

Just read this Linked In article on Millennials in the workplace.  For any business to succeed in the future they must understand as much as possible this new generation of professionals.  In many ways they are not that different than the generation before.  Enjoy the read:

Millennials in the Workplace: Five Myths and the Truths Behind Them

Millennials are the up-and-coming generation of working professionals. Born between 1980-2000, Millennials now make up over half of the workforce in Canada and the United States. As a Millennial myself, I am well aware of the sweeping statements and large generalizations that are often made about this generation. Ranging from partial truths to downright ridiculous, some of these myths can negatively impact Millennials in the workplace.

Here are 5 myths about Millennials in the workplace and the truths to set the story straight:

Myth: Millennials are lazy and do not want to work hard.

Truth: Millennials are slowly redefining what a workplace and work culture looks like. Our wants and needs are not derived out of laziness, but rather grow from what has become broken in the corporate world. Multi-faceted in our dreams and goals, we seek a workplace where we can both succeed at our jobs and pursue our passions in life.
In a recent study by Bentley University, 77% of Millennials agree that flexible work hours would make their workplace more productive. Some companies have succeeded at introducing flex-hours, creating happier and more engaged employees as a result – both Millennials and non-Millennials.
Additionally, as the “always-on” generation, we are much more accessible outside of the workplace than employees have ever been. The vast majority of Millennials own a smartphone and over 89% admit to regularly checking their work email after work hours.

Myth: Millennials are job-hoppers who do not believe in company loyalty.

Truth: We want to feel part of something bigger than our jobs. We are much more likely to stay with a company that is transparent and engaging. We want employers who are ethical and fair, not gluttonous and harsh. We are loyal to those who care about us; this is something that has been slowly changing the culture of management and continues to make developments.
We are also not quite as different as one may believe. A survey conducted by IBM showed that Millennials, Gen X’ers and Baby Boomers all change jobs for similar reasons. They cite more money and a more creative workplace as their top reasons for switching employers.

Myth: Millennials are digital addicts who want to do everything online.

Truth: Yes, almost all of us have smartphones, laptops, and iPads. We enjoy texting and social media in our personal lives, but it turns out we are not so absorbed in technology at work. Over half of the respondents in the Bentley study said they would prefer to talk to colleagues in person, rather than by email, phone, text, or chat.
As well, IBM found that Millennials’ preferred methods for learning new skills at work were also not digitally inclined. The top three methods include: attending a third-party conference, attending in-person classroom training, and working alongside knowledgeable colleagues.

Myth: Millennials are entitled and need instant gratification for a job well done.

Truth: We do not want a trophy just for showing up, but we do want feedback. We are used to instant information – not gratification – because we grew up in the digital age where the answers to our questions are just one click away. No, simply waiting for a yearly review will not suit us well. Check in with us from time to time and let us know if we are meeting your expectations and what we can do better. Providing both positive and constructive feedback engages employees and creates a better environment for success.

Myth: Millennials’ career expectations are too high.

Truth: As it turns out, Millennials’ career expectations are not that different from our older coworkers. According to IBM, Millennials put the same weight on many of the same career goals as Gen X’ers and Baby Boomer’s. Goals such as making a positive impact on their organization, helping to solve social and/or environmental challenges, and working with a diverse group of people were similar for all three generations surveyed.
Where we do differ, it seems, is the definition of success. To Millennials, success does not simply mean climbing the corporate ladder. The study conducted by Bentley University reported that 66% of Millennials want to start their own business, 37% would like to work on their own, and only 13% aspire to become CEO or president of the company they work for. Achievement is measured in different ways by Millennials and, though we may not all take the traditional career path, we all aim to succeed.

Here is the real truth: We are not one unit; we are all wildly unique and cannot fit into one mould. We are reshaping the workplace just as generations before us did. We are redefining what a career looks like. We are capable, inspired professionals seeking a workplace where we will flourish and a way to make an impact on the world.

This post was created as part of the #MillennialMe series, a conversation by Millennials about Millennials.

After I read this I realized that freight brokering is a great job for a millennial because it fits in with many of their aspirations.  A freight broker is independent, self motivated and has great expectations.  Millennials are very comfortable with technology.  Maximizing the benefits of technology is a great asset for a freight broker.  The road to success as a freight broker is a bit different than the road to success in a traditional job.  Millennials tend to take a non-traditional approach to career and success.

So no matter what generation you claim, if you are ready for a career change, consider training to be a freight broker.

Do You Need to Be Trained to be a Freight Broker?

I often get asked,"Is training worth the cost?"

I answer by telling my story of why I started a training school.  I have been in the transportation industry since I graduated from college (with lots of help of my girlfriend, now wife).  It is the perfect business for me because I can be salty with the drivers then clean up to meet with the “suits”.  I enjoy the fast paced nature of the business.  I fell into the white glove priority delivery niche of the business.  When a shipment has got to be there on time I dog it til it makes it.  I have always been a great salesman.  I won all the top sales award for all the fundraisers I ever helped with from elementary school on up.  So being a freight broker comes naturally for me.  As a freight broker I sell to shippers and negotiate with carriers.  I like being in the middle.  What I have not liked about the business is there are a few in this business, as in any business, who lack integrity.  That is a main reason I started my school.  I have been highly successful without compromising my principles.  In the short run it sometimes feels like the cheaters are winning but in the long run you get what you give.  Work an honest day and get an honest return.  Trust and be trusted.  Lie and be lied to.  It is a simple concept but few truly grasp the impact of it.

I read comments on forums that rag on freight broker trainers as shysters, out to get money and give you nothing.  Not all the students who attend Brooke Training have been successful brokers.  But it is not because we don’t teach the right stuff.  Some fail because they don’t work the process.  Others fail because they stop too soon.  And others fail because it simply is not the right fit for their personality.   I teach a successful process.  I know it is successful because I have been successful with it, as have others.

That is why I started a training school to teach how to do this business with integrity and to share the process I honed over decades in the industry.  Each month our students have the opportunity to give us feedback on the class.  I send a blog with those testimonials each month and we post the testimonials on the website.  These are not my words, not made up words but the words of actual students just as they finished the week long course.

Have any questions?  Give me a call 214-206-1169.  We'd enjoy seeing you in a class real soon.

Moving forward,

Jeff Roach

Success is Eminent

I thrive on hearing confident words from graduates of our training course.  My favorite phrase from this most recent group of graduates for our Dallas live class is “I am more than certain success is eminent.”  He learned not only the nuts and bolts of being freight broker but more importantly he gained the confidence needed to push forward.  As a freight broker you must make a lot of phone calls to establish a client base.  You just have to be able to understand that “no” is an encouraging word not a discouraging word.  When someone says “no” to your offer to help with their shipments that just means you are one step closer to a “yes”.   They aren’t saying they don’t think you are capable of the job; they just don’t need your help now.

Read through a couple of testimonies from our recent class.  Thanks Vinny for teaching with such excellence every month.  Thank you graduates for spending a week with us.  We wish you much prosperity in your new career.

"I thoroughly enjoyed the class.  Not only did it meet my every expectation, but exceeded my desires.  I wanted to learn the freight broker business, and I learned of my “life” business.  I am more than certain success is eminent and my business will thrive, as a result of all I have been through.  Vinny is the man!"--Sean Thomas

"Brooke Training class was very good for me.  It was very informative and interesting.  You learn about yourself, trucking industry, and most of all the broker business from start to finish.  I would definitely recommend to a friend." --Phadra Riser

"It was a very interesting class.  I learned a lot of things in a few days.  Instructor was very supportive and communicative.  I made a good decision to take this training class.  Thanks!" --Lorenc Aleksi

It's OK to Fail

I have to admit that my children have heard me say these exact words, hundreds of times. I have also asked this question in training and in business meetings: "Am I a negative person?"

Of course not. I contend that if your not failing at something in your life, then you're not trying enough new stuff.

Recently, I have been working with a company that lives and dies by how the report card looks.  If the expenses are not in line with the revenue, they fix it. The other thing they do is make it known that they are always looking for add on businesses to buy and add on services to increase the profits for the investors. Do all of these deals work exactly as planned? Of course not. Does that stop them from doing more deals? No way! Seldom does a plan look exactly like the finished result. If you have ever built a home, you understand. The key is to build a solid foundation and when it comes to adapt and change, you can be fluid and make the changes less painful

In business and in life, we are the only ones that can use our God given abilities. We all have them, but we must choose faith over fear and work to achieve our goals. Failing is a part of business and life. We adapt and we set a new path to our destination. Now don't get me wrong folks, you must have goals, you must have a road map on how to reach those goals and you have to work hard.

Remember, a win does not make you and a loss does not break you. Giving up breaks you. Fear of not trying to do your best breaks you.

Failure is not only an option, it is a given if your are trying to achieve lofty goals. The only true failures in life are when we allow someone else to determine our self worth. We are all worthy.  We are all capable of amazing things. Be your own best friend and be proud of yourself. Work hard for you. Don't be afraid to deal with adversity. Embrace it.

They told my five foot tall 14 year old daughter in the ninth grade that they could teach a tall girl how to play volleyball, but could not teach a short girl how to be tall. They underestimated her tenacity. With a lot of hard work and the tenaciousness that only a true champion has, she's still five feet tall at 17 years old yet was awarded the national MVP and captain of her volleyball team this last year.

The freedom to fail allowed her to ignor those negative words. She did not worry about what people thought. She just got back at it and made it happen. She never even thought about giving up. She  was told NO more times than she was told YES throughout her sports career. Most likely, if you're a salesman like me, you will be told NO more often than YES as well. Don't worry about.

I was told a hundred times that I could NOT put the very first and only online freight broker course in all the major colleges and universities.  Check it out, you will find my course offered in all major colleges and universities.

We are all built to achieve. Do not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. You may have to adapt and adjust your path along the way, but the goal remains the same. If you fall down, get back up. All major athletes and most world leaders have had to overcome adversity. When you set those lofty goals, you too will fall. Life is too short not to give it all you have. Everybody says it can't be done until someone does it. We have all seen this played out in our lives.

Being on the mountain top is great, but I contend that the journey is where the true joy comes from. The relationships you make on your journey are so critical. Treat people the way you want to be treated and choose grace over being self-centered. Be other-people-centered. I have never met a happy selfish person.

Always try and be better today than you were yesterday. Enjoy your time with those you love and those who love you. One day you will wish you did. I promise you that!

Keep trying new things. Work hard and remember failure is an event, not a person. As Mr. Ziglar says, "Yesterday really did end last night and today really is a brand new day." You're never too old or too young to start failing. Think about it.

Moving forward,

Freight broker Certification

I’ve been in the transportation industry for 3 decades, working in almost all areas.  I’ve spent most of my career as a freight broker, a freight broker trainer and a coach.  I have found great success and been able to use my natural and learned skills.  Transportation is a dynamic industry, a critical element in our nation’s economy.  All products need some transportation.  So there is always a need for reliable, trustworthy freight brokers.  A freight broker matches companies who have products with carriers who can move those products.  A freight broker often helps carriers find a return load so they make money on both legs of their trip.

I’ve been asked if there are different levels of broker certification (i.e., Master Broker, Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver, or Journeyman Broker)?

There is truly only one level of broker certification, Property Broker, commonly called a Freight Broker.  The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) does not recognize any other title than Property Broker.

I love my work as a freight broker and I love mentoring upstart freight brokers as well.  We teach a basic freight broker training course as well as an advanced course.  The advanced course adds more hands on opportunity for the student but not a higher certification.  I continue to consult with my students long after they finish either course.  I find much satisfaction in seeing my student find success as a freight broker.

If you have an interest in learning more, we have live and online classes monthly listed on our website.  If you have any questions at all don’t hesitate to contact me.
