A Peaceful, Prosperous Life

What is your formula for a peaceful, prosperous life?   Living at peace does not mean you live without conflict.  Just as having a prosperous life, does not mean you have a lot of money.

We live at peace when we learn from our mistakes, stay humble and trust in God.  Living that way gives us prosperity in our hearts.

We all have conflict in our lives with people and with situations. Living at peace, to me, means having an inner calm even when things around you are out of control.  I must admit I am sometimes the one who stirs up strife. When I do I purpose to make things right again.  We learn a lot from our mistakes. Take the time to figure out what you can learn from each mistake.  Stay humble and be willing to learn.  Ask God for guidance all along the way. After all He has it all figured out already.

My favorite way of smoothing out the conflict is with humor. Laughing of course lightens the mood. Laughing burns calories. And laughing releases "feel good" endorphins into your system.  Children tend to laugh much more than adults. So if you need more laughter in your life hang out with more little ones.  Their laugh is contagious even when you have no idea what they are laughing about. I would like laugh more.

Find something you love to do, work at it hard,  do it a lot and you will be prosperous.

As a freight broker I have had to deal with conflict when a load gets lost or when a carrier hits bad weather but I have experienced peace when I helped all the parties involved find solutions.

No Degree Required Career

Looking for a great career but you don't have a degree?  The transportation industry has fast paced career opportunities that don't require a degree.  Freight brokers help move products across the country by working with the carriers/truckers and the product distributors.  Freight Brokers often specialize in certain types of freight like automobiles, groceries or retail displays.

I have been in the freight brokering business for several decades.  I built a successful freight brokerage from the ground up. After years in the industry I decided to start a freight broker training school to pass on much of the knowledge I gained along the way.  I also have a great desire to mentor freight brokers who want to be professionals of high integrity.

This is an industry that is full of great potential for anyone who is willing to put in the work and be honest.  I believe that you may seem to win in the short run by cutting corners. But in the long run those who rise above and work with unquestionable ethics have the greatest gain.  They also sleep a lot better at night.

Good Friday

And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, He gave up His spirit. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split. Matthew 27:50-51

This is what happened on "good" Friday 2019 years ago.  Historically on that day the sky went black from noon to 3 p.m.  An earthquake was caused the world to shake.  Rock broke open.   The temple, the place of worship for the Jews of that day, housed a little room called the Holy of Holies. In that room the priest would go in  to ask for forgiveness for the sins of the people.  The little room was separated from all the rest of the temple by a curtain.  That is the curtain that was torn from top to bottom.  Torn from Heaven to earth.

According to Christian views the veil torn shows that man no more needs to go to the priest for forgiveness.  Christ offers that freely to those who ask.  The priest no longer needs to interceed for the people because Christ offers access to God for everyone who desires that relationship.

Christ was not killed that day...He gave up His spirit.  He decided to die for the people He loved.  He chose the cross. He chose a rough road for our sakes.

Why do we call it "good" Friday?  It was a gruesome day of torture for Jesus and for the two men who hung on crosses on either side of Christ.  Yet is it called good because Christ did the greatest good that day by offering His life so we could live eternally with God.

You are free to believe whatever you want of course.  I enjoy discusses other's beliefs.

But this is what I believe.

Dream

“I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed:

Do you think this dream of MLK has come to be? I believe our country has made great strides in ensuring that all men are treated equal.  We can do more.  King was a champion of equality way ahead of his time.  He was not an angry protester but a man with a heart for truth that spoke with courage and dignity.  He taught that we can fight for equal rights without hateful words, loud chants and degrading speech.We have laws on the books ensuring equal employment opportunity, voting rights and equal access to public places. But the place that needs to be changed the most is our hearts and thoughts. As long as we believe in our hearts that we are better than someone else then we do not truly believe that all men are created equal.







At Brooke Training, we have the privilege of working in a very diverse classroom.  People from all races and walks of life have come to our classes or taken one of our online courses.

A Man of Honor

Today is the day set aside to honor a man worthy of honor. Not many of us get our own holiday but Martin Luther King, Jr. earned that amazing feat. Jesus has a holiday, Lincoln and Washington used to have their own holidays, now we have Presidents' Day. That's it. So today think of all this man did to be remembered with great celebration.

 He was a baptist preacher and a civil rights activist who changed our country with kindness and boldness in a few short years.  He called out men and women of all races to get out of the dark and see how great the light is. He was a man of high integrity and great courage.   

I find great inspiration in quotes.  Here are a few favorites from Martin Luther King, Jr.I found in Newsweek:

Spend some time today reflecting on the impact this one man made in our society. Don't under estimate your ability to be an agent of change where you are.

Should a Trucker be a Broker?

 

 I have been fortunate to meet many drivers who have attended my freight broker training classes. I can honestly say the driver does most of the work and gets the least amount of respect, so if you currently own a trucking company, and are thinking of opening a brokerage, I’d like to offer my insight to help you on your journey.

 Trucking companies and brokerages are complementary business, meaning they are easily bundled.  But the timing of stepping into brokering must be right. Your brokerage must be set up as a separate business altogether because brokers and carriers have completely different regulations, laws, and liabilities. You should only open a brokerage if:

1. Your trucking company has a sustainable cash flow
2.  You have more freight than capacity. 

If it doesn’t, you should explore becoming an agent for an existing brokerage, instead. Plan on working hard every day for 3 - 6 months before you start making real money.  It’s not a get rich quick business, but rather a strategic business process that requires a great attitude and a sense of urgency. You’ll have your ups and downs, but don’t get discouraged; focus on progress, not perfection. If you continue to work hard, you can build a successful career working from anywhere with internet access. 

In this industry, time is money. It’s important to stay ahead of the curve and have a plan. When you’re ready to take the leap, I encourage you to attend training. The Sky's the Limit

That is what happened in my life.  If you knew me as a child you would not peg me as one most likely to succeed in life.  I had a lazy eye, so I was not perceived to be able to succeed in school.  I was put in the "special" class because I was a cross eyed kid.  But I was also a hard worker and a natural salesman. (and I had surgery on my crazy looking eye)

I worked hard to graduate from college with the help of my beautiful bride. I have worked in just about every position in the freight transportation industry.  I learned the business working my way up.  I have found great success and have been able to provide a great life for those I love along the way.  

I didn't look the part of a successful entrepreneur but that is what I became.  I started a freight broker training school to share what I learned the hard way.  I also wanted to teach others that you can succeed in this industry with integrity.  Choose to always work with honesty.  You will not regret it.
