Bring a Friend to Freight Broker Training

Every day on the news I hear great signals for economic prosperity on the horizon.  The Dow Jones just hit an all time high.  Regardless of your political views, the macro picture for the transportation industry has never been better.

We hear that new construction of manufacturing plants is in the works.
US companies are trading at all time highs on the stock exchange, which means more capitol investments.

USA is investing in infrastructure improvements including the building of more pipelines, highways and tunnels.  We are even going to build a Wall I have heard although I don’t think Mexico is too happy with that idea.

There is a reason why all the transport companies are hiring. We have never ever had a better environment for freight transport specialist and those companies who arrange transportation services for profit (freight brokers).  I can’t think of a better time to be in this industry in my 30 year career in the freight industry.

In anticipation of this economic opportunity, Brooke Transportation Training Solutions is offering a

2 for 1 special
through the end of February 2017.

So come to training, bring your spouse, your business partner or a friend.  Both of you will get trained for the price of one.  You can take the class whenever it fits in your schedule.  Sign up before the end of February to get the 2 for 1 special.

This is your chance to get a great head start in your career as an agent or broker.

Be a Leader

As the owner of a training school I am expected to know my industry.  I have some years in the business, so I do have some experience to share with those newer in the business.  Knowledge and experience carries responsibility.  In training others I must be a man of high moral character because others are watching me, aspiring to find success in the transportation industry like I have. That is a challenge for me, because I am flawed.  We are all flawed so the best we can do is try to overcome our flaws and learn from our mistakes.  Be quick to forgive and accept forgiveness for my own shortcomings.

I recently found this list of qualities of a leader with a brief definition of each:

Wisdom and Knowledge – strengths for stimulating visions and ideas.
Courage – strengths for weaving moral fiber.
Humanity – strengths for developing others.
Justice – strengths for role modeling.
Temperance – strengths for keeping the ego in check.
Transcendence – strengths for inspiring greatness.

Take a few minutes to think on these characteristics.  Read through the list several times.  I think I'm going to post this list by my desk so I can let these ideas sink in a little each day.

Super Loadboard

Just saw this press release that is important for all freight brokers:

DAT Solutions Consolidates Getloaded Load Board into One Super Database

PORTLAND, Ore., Jan. 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — DAT Solutions today announced that Getloaded, a leading load board for smaller freight brokers and carriers, has been integrated into the DAT network of load boards, expanding  the industry’s largest  on-demand freight exchange for spot truckload freight with greater diversity of equipment types and loads from specialized brokers. The combination joins the industry’s leading load boards into a single network with greater capacity and load volume for van, refrigerated, flatbed, and specialty freight. Prior to the consolidation, Getloaded and DAT – which includes DAT Power, DAT Express, DAT TruckersEdge and OOIDA’s MembersEdge – had operated with independent databases.

The consolidation of Getloaded carriers plus DAT’s own subscription growth has resulted in a 36 percent increase in the number of carriers accessing the DAT network of load boards from a year ago. The consolidation, which was completed in December 2016, gives brokers access to the largest – and rapidly growing – base of available trucks.
Likewise, former Getloaded carriers now access 400 percent more loads per day on DAT. These are available  to them on the road as a result of DAT’s recently announced mobile load board app connecting truckers where they work.

„In this case, bigger really is better. On the spot market, carriers want to choose from as much freight as possible, and brokers want to connect with as many quality trucks that can deliver freight on a lane,” said Don Thornton, Senior Vice President at DAT.
Since 1999, Getloaded built its reputation as a marketplace for smaller brokers and carriers, especially those moving flatbed and specialty freight,” said Thornton. „We’re excited to offer more choices and services from a single, super database where customers can post loads and trucks more efficiently,”

The move is the latest in a series of expansions at DAT. In August, the company relocated to a 55,000-square foot, state-of-the-art facility in Portland, Oregon. It also grew its technical and engineering staff, while expanding its data science department to address the needs of a changing industry. These capabilities further expand DAT’s role as an information and technology leader in trucking and transportation.

About DATDAT operates the largest spot freight marketplace in North America. Transportation brokers, carriers, news organizations and industry analysts rely on DAT for market trends and data insights derived from 100 million annual freight matches and a database of $33 billion of market transactions. Related services include a comprehensive directory of companies with business history, credit, safety, insurance and company reviews; broker transportation management software; authority, fuel tax, mileage, vehicle licensing, and registration services; and carrier onboarding.

Founded in 1978, DAT Solutions, LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Roper Technologies (NYSE: ROP), a diversified technology company and constituent of the S&P 500, Fortune 1000 and Russell 1000 indices. www.DAT.com

Chicago Career Training

Live in the Chicago area? Can you hop on a flight to Chicago easily?  Then we have a training course for you.

In February and again in March we will offer our Freight Broker Training Course in Chicago.

In one week you will learn a proven process to be a success as a freight broker or freight broker agent.  A  freight broker matches loads that need to be moved with the transporters who can move the load.  The broker can work as an independent agent or as an agent of a larger freight brokerage.  In either case the broker is his own boss.  As your own boss your earnings are up to you. The harder and smarter you work, the more you will earn.  Training will help you work smarter by giving you tools, and motivation for success.  Brooke Training has been teaching the method for successful freight brokering for a couple of decades now.  The instructors are involved in the transportation industry so they teach from experience.  They will answer any questions you have during training and be there for you as you start your business.

Many freight brokers start out on their own then come to training after they've been struggling in business for a while.  They tell us they don't know why they waited to get training.

Come train for a career that is in demand.  We always need freight brokers with integrity to keep our economy moving.

Is Freight Broker Training Worth It?

I'm a big proponent of training.  I've read the research.  Training does give you a leg up on whatever it is you are doing.  My brother-in-law was heading off to a ski vacation.  But he didn't know how to ski.  He secretly went to a sporting goods shop that had a fake mountain and learned to ski on "carpet" snow.  The others in the group did not take such lessons.

When they got to the real snow the others were so amazed at how quickly my brother in law caught on to sking.  His ski training got him sailing down those real mountains with a lot more ease than those who did not take lessons ahead of time.

I've seen the same thing happen time and time again to new freight brokers. I have watched both those who start their freight brokerage without training and those who have been through training.  I've seen both succeed and I've seen both fail.  You can get the best training yet not work hard enough or smart enough to land the accounts that will grow over time.  You can go in untrained and figure it out on your own.  But how many careers can you launch successfully without some education?

One thing I know for sure, when you start your freight brokerage without training your road to success will be longer.  Many of our graduates said they wish they had not waited to get training.  At Brooke Transportation Training Solutions we teach a process.  We share valuable resources and techniques.  We make sure our students understand how to use the technologies available to the best of their ability.

All of our instructors are in the transportation business or have spent years in the business and now are giving back by training others.  Their wealth of knowledge, wisdom and insight is invaluable.  I am a strong believer in continuing education.  I know the value of having mentors in business and in life.  My mentors have steered me away from many cliffs that could have been devastating.

If you are thinking about starting a career as a freight broker or freight broker agent, give me a call.  I won't pressure you, I'll just tell you my story and ask about yours.  I take many calls from freight brokers who just need a little advise or encouragement.  They may or may not come to my school in the future.  But I believe you get what you give.  If I am stingy with my time others won't give me the time of day.  If I give some help then when I need help there will be someone there to help me.

We only have one chance to make the most of today.  Enjoy.

Moving forward,

Jeff Roach

2017 is Here

Happy New Year to You.  I haven't gotten used to writing 2017 yet.  It seems to take me longer each year to remember we are in a new year.  It takes me longer to remember a lot of things now a days actually.

But I do enjoy taking time to remember the blessings of the year.  2016 is in the books so now is a great time to reflect on the past and project for the future.

In 2016 we trained a lot of new freight brokers.  If you are one of those brokers let me know how the beginning of your new career in freight brokering is going.  I did some great fishing  in Mexico.  I spent great time with my family and friends.  I started wearing a fit bit to monitor my fitness activity...but I can't say I always get all my steps in.

So my goals for the New Year include training more freight brokers because we are going to need them according to projections I have read.  We are going to offer classes in Chicago February 13-17 and March 13 - 17.  If you are in the area or want to take a little trip Illinois, come join us.

How will you improve your life in 2017 while helping those around you?
