Control Your Destiny

One of the great things about being a freight broker or freight broker agent is you can control your own destiny.  If you are an individual that is self-motivated and will work hard to achieve, then you would make a great freight broker.

As a freight broker or a freight broker agent you are your own boss.  You call the shots.  So your success depends on you.  Not everyone is cut out to be their own boss.  Some people need a boss telling them what to do and then make sure the work gets done.  As a freight broker you have to keep yourself going.

I recommend my new freight brokers build a network of others around them that will help encourage them when their motivation and inspiration starts to lag.  I try to inspire graduates to keep pushing forward knowing they will reap benefits.

Plaster inspirational messages all around your work area so that where ever you turn there will be some wisdom to read.

Always have an inspirational book you are reading either digitally or an old school hard copy.  Subscribe to blogs or virtual newsletters that give industry information as well as motivational tips.

I have three main mentors in my life that have kept me on track many times when I was veering off direction.

Think about what motivates you best and find ways to keep that motivation coming.

Moving forward,

2 for 1 Special--last chance

2 for 1 special
through the end of February 2017.

Come to freight broker training and bring your spouse, your business partner or a friend.  Both of you will get trained for the price of one.  You can take the class whenever it fits in your schedule.  So long as you put a deposit down on the course before the end of February you will get the 2 for 1 special.

There is a reason why all the transport companies are hiring. We have never ever had a better environment for freight transport specialist and those companies who arrange transportation services for profit (freight brokers).  I truly can’t think of a better time to be in this industry in my 30 year career in the freight industry.

Every day on the news I hear great signals for economic prosperity on the horizon.  The Dow Jones just hit an all time high.  Regardless of your political views, the macro picture for the transportation industry has never been better.

We hear that new construction of manufacturing plants is in the works.
US companies are trading at all time highs on the stock exchange, which means more capitol investments.

USA is investing in infrastructure improvements including the building of more pipelines, highways and tunnels.
I recently heard that a large percentage of our bridges need bolstering.  All these projects will require the transportation of needed materials, equipment, and food.

In anticipation of this economic opportunity, Brooke Transportation Training Solutions is offering a two for the price of one special.

Training with another has great benefits.  We have many husband and wife teams train together so they both know how to run the business.  A partner may hear different things so together a team will be better informed.  During training each person may figure what area of the business they feel best suits their skills and personality.  Partners can help motivate and inspire the other.  So come join us.
This is your chance to get a great head start in your career as an agent or broker and bring a friend along.

Work from Home

As a freight broker I have worked at an office and from home.  I prefer working from home but I find it both challenging and rewarding.  Most of the graduates from Brooke Transportation Training Solutions freight broker training course start as agents of a larger brokerage working out of their home.  If you'd enjoy working from home this is a great career option for you.

I love the commute!  I walk from my bed to my desk and start work.  My desk is set up in our great room with huge plate glass windows that look out on a lake. I work hard for a few hours and then take a break to take a walk.  I find if I get up and do the hardest things I need to do first I am invigorated to keep going.  My tendency is to want to put off the hard phone calls and tedious tasks but I fight that tendency everyday.

During my walk breaks I will analyze the phone calls I have already completed and make a mental note of what I want to accomplish that day.  I may call one of my mentors while walking for inspiration and advice.

Cold calls are part of the job, but I'm not sure anyone likes cold calling.  So cold calling is one of the things I purpose to do early in my day.  I've learned to try to find a purpose in every call.  Maybe I can encourage someone who needs a good word.  Perhaps a call will build some good will with a company that could later turn into a prospect which could eventually turn into a customer.  I never know.  I treat everyone with respect.  Even if they will never be an asset in my business they may refer someone to me simply because I was respectful.

My day is often high-jacked by incoming phone calls I was not expecting.  But I've found great things can come from the unexpected.  So I treat every call as an opportunity.

Go out and make it a great day.

Jeff Roach

A Freight Broker’s Success Story

--> Our Freight Broker Training Course is a 40-hour jump start into a career as a freight broker.  I am confident our course gives our graduates the tools for success.   But it is up to each individual to work hard and stay focused no matter the obstacles that come.   I can’t make any promises of success or of monetary gain because much of one’s success in this industry, as in any industry, depends on the person.

Here is the story of one graduate who has found success:

An interview with Thomas Gaither, TNB Freight Logistics, LLC

When did you attend Brooke Transportation Training Solution’s (BTTS) freight broker class?

April 2015

What was the most beneficial thing you learned?

Personality traits and what I would be faced with. He prepared me to know the money won’t just come.  I have to stay motivated to keep going.  The instructor told what he faced, the odds, and the attrition rate.

What information have you used most?

People can stop you temporarily but only you can stop yourself permanently.

Did you feel prepared to be a freight broker?

More scared than prepared.

Did you have prior experience?

I was a shipper of dry groceries and produce when I decided to become a freight broker.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I have 2 babies, 10 month old and 22 months old.  I get to watch them grow (working from home as a freight broker)

What’s been the most challenging?

I hate cold calling but know it pays off.  I have freight but can’t find good help, delegating is tough.

Do you feel you have found success?

Yes

What makes you feel successful?

Looking at the numbers.  I made some bad choices in my youth that made it hard to find a good paying job.  Now I have a career to take care of my family.

How do you build relationships?

I read up on the markets of my customers so I have some knowledge to offer them.  I learn about their interests.  I quote quickly and communicate.  Truthfulness is the key.  I am a problem solver

What advice would you give someone thinking about becoming a broker?

Know that this is not a get-rich quick career, it takes hard work.  Jeff  Roach has become a mentor to me.

BTTS is a good school that will teach the full circle.  I graduated 2 years ago, yet Jeff still gives me advice.  BTTS returns my calls.  They don’t just throw you out to fin for yourself.

Get your foot in the door and build your base.  Be thorough.

Thank you, Thomas for your insight into the road to success as a freight broker.

Like Thomas, you can learn a new career with great potentialJoin us at our next class.

"A Semester of Info in One Week"

We had a recent student from New Jersey come to our Atlanta freight broker-training course.  She had no prior experience in the transportation industry.  She wrote a letter to her instructor Drake:

Dear Drake,

Thank you for your continued support and providing information on the building of the process of becoming successful in this "business."

I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to learn about another fascinating career path.  I was the only one in the session who did not know very much about the transportation side of moving freight throughout the country and the world---it was truly an eye-opening experience.  I have studied marketing from the academic side, but never from the physical movement side.  You gave us a "grand" tour of the other side of the coin--the logistics of movement.  It was overwhelming in the beginning, but became clearer as the week progressed.  Your one-week presentation provided a semester of information.  You were patient, answered questions with enthusiasm and were not satisfied until we understood.  It was evident that you were passionate about teaching and the field.

Thank you for the personal touch, the professional coaching and teaching style.

Sincerely,

Celia D. Younger, PME Transport, LLC

I appreciate my excellent instructors and eager students who give our school greatness.

Moving forward,

Jeff Roach
