I have found success, yet along the way I've had some stumbles. Not all my projects have turned out the way I envisioned. I give myself permission to fail. Yet when I fall, I have to dust myself off and get going again.
So what do I think is needed to succeed?
First, focus more on giving more than you take.
Secondly, learn and work a proven process. The process takes the pressure off of the person.
Thirdly, always look for ways to get lean. Reduce costs while increasing sales.
My biggest challenge is figuring out what project to do next.
I am a believer and know that my success is because I've been given a lot of grace and blessing. I'm not always great at it, but I try to be a giver. I've been given back much more than I've given out.
Think about your definition of success and go for it, full speed ahead.

A Day to Remember
Memorial Day, a day to remember all those who gave their lives in defense of our great nation. I know I take that for granted. I don't think too often about those who died and those who grieve because of a loved one that died. Take some time today to reflect on those heroes of our history. Enjoy time with family recognizing that many don't have their whole family with them because of a loss in a foreign country or a loss in training.
Many of the men in my family served in the military but no one in my immediate family was killed in the line of duty.
Almost all killed in the military were young, just starting their adult lives. That perhaps makes the pain even more intense.
Be thankful for this day and for every day you have as a gift from
God. Any pain and hardship you have can drag you down for a time. But as you get through the pain you will be stronger. You will be able to encourage others in their hard times. And you will be more thankful for the days you have with those that love you.

Helping Our Heroes: Creating New Opportunities for Disabled Veterans in the Transportation Industry
Our company, Brooke Transportation Training, is a career school that trains individuals to be freight brokers and agents. We’re most grateful and honored to be approved by the government to train disabled veterans and give them the opportunity to work from home as freight broker agents.
Meet one of our veterans, Cavin Brown. He trained with us last month and was kind enough to share a little about his training experience at Brooke, including what to expect during and after training, along with valuable advice for other veterans who are considering starting a career in this lucrative industry. Read his interview below.
———
Describe your experience training at Brooke: Knowing upfront that this business is all about hard work, dedication, resilience, and integrity was the true value.. and knowing what it really takes to be successful in any industry. My experience was fulfilling and motivating. I immediately felt you guys’ love. This industry offers a huge opportunity to anyone willing to put in the work.
How was working with the team at Brooke? Well, I feel like an extended family member really. Everyone was super easy going.
As you embark on your new career, what are you looking forward to? I’m most excited about having the opportunity to be an independent business owner, control my quality of life, and offer the same motivation and opportunity to others.
What opportunities have you found after graduation? I’ve found that after only a few weeks out of training at BTTS that finding a job opportunity would be the easy part. Negotiating your contract doesn’t take long - you’ll know what's right for you by the time you complete training.
What would you tell other veterans who are considering training at Brooke and starting a career in this industry? Well, don’t be closed minded on the approach. Even if you do, I think after a couple of days you'll see how big of a difference this opportunity can make in your life... Be ready for a lot of good info. Don’t be overwhelmed. It'll fade fast and before you know it brokers will be knocking down your door and you'll be on your way...
Don’t be afraid of failure - be more afraid of not trying. Your very dream could be right in arms reach. Being open minded, respectful, honest and having the will to network will take you out of your comfort zone and that's exactly where change happens. Keep pushing!
- Cavin Brown
———
We’d like to give a big thank you to Cavin for sharing. If you know any veterans who may be interested in this opportunity, please pass this along to them. All of us at Brooke are truly passionate about helping our country’s heroes provide for themselves and their families through our training program.
We are also interested in building new relationships with successful freight brokers and agents, who are interested in taking on our trained graduates as agents. All of our graduates need mentors and the best mentors are established freight brokers and agents. We‘re looking for people who are “go-getters and go-givers,” who care about the success of our students as much as we do. We are looking for people who remember what it was like to be given their first chance and would like to give that back to someone else. If this is something you are interested in, please give us a call or check out our website.

A Great Class this Month in Charlotte, NC!
We had a wonderful class in Charlotte, North Carolina this month! Our graduates commended our phenomenal instructor, Susie Moore, for her ability to share her abundance of knowledge in a way that was both understandable and enjoyable. They also expressed that they are leaving class confident, prepared, and excited to start their new careers. Read their full testimonials here:
“I signed up with this class thinking it was going to be something I could breeze through. To my surprise, being a broker or agent is more to it than I thought, and Susie made it simple. The classroom environment was small which made it more intimate and gave us as a class time for more questions. If you are looking for a future in the broker/agent (field), Brooke is definitely the way to go. They are friendly, professional, and most important, knowledgeable.” - Rodney Houser
“I want to say that Susie Moore is a great teacher and I learned a lot of good information from her and I feel confident that I can start my business and be very productive. I will recommend Brooke Transportation Training Solutions L.L.C. to everyone that I know that wants to start a business in trucking. I will miss Susie Moore but I will call if I need to!” - Tammy Robinson Heath
“I entered this class with barely any experience. After the class was completed, I feel secure that I have a very good understanding of the field of freight brokering.” - Lamar Pope
“Susie made everything make sense. I am really truly excited about freight brokering and the interaction with Susie has done nothing but increase my confidence. Because of all the information I know now due to Susie’s instruction, I feel as though I will do nothing but excel because of the resources and relationships that we’ve built. I am eternally in her debt. Thanks!!!” - MarKeith Collins
“I looked up this class online and saw Brooke was one of the top five freight broker training schools that offered in-class training in different parts of the U.S… After taking class, I have been very satisfied with the material and open discussions. This class is worth to take.” - Hassan Shoaib
“I think Susie is a great teacher. She taught us a lot. She was very realistic about the way things are done. I know will benefit me and my family. I just want to thank her for her time to educate someone else and hope she keeps up the good work.” - Melissa Rushing

I Wanna Quit
What do you do when you feel very discouraged, defeated, or useless? You can wallow in those feelings awhile but don't get stuck there or you'll never succeed.
When you wanna quit call on an encourager. Have people in your life that speak "life". An encourager will spur us back onto the positive path. They look for the good in every situation. Our natural tendency is to think about what went wrong in the day instead of what went well. An encourager will help you not go down the path of defeat. Look for the good, the progress and the victories in each day. We of course need to "vent" a little but try to have a limit on how long you allow negative talk come out of your mouth.
A freight broker just starting out can get discouraged easily. It takes some time to make a first sale and even longer to establish customers for repeat business. I tell my freight broker students to have some stout savings at the start of their business. Be confidant and content with living off of savings or other income when you first start. Then you don't feel pressure to pressure potential customers to give you business. Approach every sale with an attitude of gratitude. Each interaction is one step closer to a sale, be thankful for that. Each interaction teaches you more about the industry, be thankful for that. Each interaction may be a new encourager for you, be thankful for that.
If you need some postitive talk in your life, give me a call. I try to be an encourager to all my students because I've been there.

Although a lot of information was given, I still felt very confident upon completion of the five-day course.” - Greg Washington
“My experience with Brooke Transportation has been outstanding. I expected to learn about freight broker agent positions in logistics, but the level of information shared was far beyond expectations. He does a thorough job at explaining and making sure you understand. Tish is great as well. I enjoyed her method of teaching, as well. I have enjoyed every moment of the course offered. Thank you so much.” - Mary L.
“Very blessed to have vocational rehab to see the same vision as I did on this particular endeavor. A lot of information to retain but with the tools given in class and the calming and candor personality of Drake and Tish who were willing to answer any and all questions to my understanding. Not only me but the whole class. Believe me, this particular class had a lot of questions. It’s been a pleasure. I’m very excited and after being education on this subject matter I feel I’m equipped to take on this industry head on. Thanks.” - Duane Alvin
“I attended the Brooke Training Solutions basic class beginning April 24th, 2017. The instructors were Drake Sliver, Tish Cozine, Mr. Jeff Roach, and a presentation by Mr. Bryan Flanagan. The class was very informative, organized, and interesting. My instructors were extremely knowledgeable and provided the necessary training needed to be a successful transportation broker/agent. Not only was the class informative, but highly motivational as well. They were able to give me confidence that I am prepared to move forward with a successful career.” - Patrick Lamb
“I am a very satisfied student of Brooke Transportation Training Solutions. I was enrolled in the one week class the week of April 24th, 2017. I have to say that I am truly impressed with the knowledge of the trainers. Coming from a truck driver’s background, some of the lingo was really familiar. However, hearing things from the broker/agent side truly broaden my horizon. I am leaving this training feeling unstoppable, very capable, and ready to learn as a sales representative. As a full fledge agent within 3 months or earlier. Within 6 months, I will have my agency up and running with atlas 4-6 subagents and 2 sales reps. Thank you, Jeff, Jan, Drake, and Tish for everything. Talk to you all soon.” - Lisa Mitchell
